Gacha games also tend to make more money than FFXIV.

They aren't making more money because they offer better quality to attract more players from the start. They make more money because they prey on those with poor money management skills, gambling addictions, or an obsessive desire to "collect them all" by using tactics that encourage players to spend more real money rather rely on currency earned through game play (limited time loot being one of the most common methods).

Gacha is a great deal for those with the self-control to not spend the money but a lot of players are spending hundreds or even thousands a month compared to the $15/mo we have to pay for a subscription here.

I would agree with you for the old Gacha's because they have time under their belt to create a huge roster but new Gachas like Limbus Company and Honkai Star Rail have a small roster and you can complete them quickly. In Limbus Company I have almost all the character personalities and EGO's and I haven't spent a cent, they release new banners at a okayish rate and getting the main new thing isn't that hard. They have a battle pass that lasts for over 100 days so it doesn't have that FOMO feel to it and that is like the only thing I spent real money on which is like a subscription but with many benefits.

I play Granblue Fantasy and that shit is a grindfest, the business tactics that Granblue Fantasy does vs. recent gachas are very different.

Let's not ignore that XIV is a subscription game with a cash shop that is releasing less content for its price and XIV have their own crowd of whales.

Whilst I absolutely agree with you, it's also noteworthy that the profits those games generate often tend to be funneled into creating more cash-generating content as opposed to actual playable content.

Not sure. That isn't to say that that's not the case - I don't honestly know.

But a lot of items on the cash shop ARE unique to the cash shop. Sure you have some event stuff, but a sizable portion is unique.

I don't think we should have low expectations, just realistic expectations.

But keeping expectations low has the benefit of never disappointing you and sometimes surprising you, as opposed to having high expectations and constantly being disappointed and unhappy. Easier to just enjoy stuff rather than perpetually subjecting yourself to disappointment.

There's that and then there's also looking at something and thinking "Is there something I could enjoy in this if it wasn't X?" It may not be exactly what was asked for and feedback can still be given about where it lacks but if you go into something with the idea that you'll hate it if it's not X then you're probably going to hate it. Becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

That is pretty much why I stated in the rest of my post, that SE has very little to reason to change how they are doing things. Pretty much agree.

The issues we face as gamers are 100% our fault as gamers. If people did not buy into microtransactions to the insane amount as they do, did not let their desire to fund their hobby overshadow the warnings from people that this will not be good for the future of gaming maybe just maybe we would not be in this situation. Truth is we are here, whales are here to stay and they will become the focus for devs, the ones that want to play a good game will be on the back burner.

There is an obvious antidote and that is to publicly pressure whales and make them feel uncomfortable.
