except square enix is a japanese company
the JP people have no leg to stand on to claim that sqex is appealing to NA, when square enix is a japanese company
Ever hear of a game called Final Fantasy Mystic Quest? This was an FF game Square made specifically to market to "western audiences".
It was incredibly dumbed down and short. The only recallable mechanics were simple puzzles within the areas if you could even call them puzzles. Aside from this game having a story that's been growing over 10 years this has been the direction gameplay wise FF14 has been going and pretty much how they built FF16. The funny thing is that while everyone was outraged at Mystic Quest, western "game journalists" want to throw every award in existence at FF16 while the title's sales tanked in Japan after it's first week. Meanwhile this game continues to lose more of it's identity to appease the small amount of people who claim they have no time to actually play this game because of supposed work, kids, life, etc and feel the need to sit on internet forums for 23 hours a day telling everyone how busy their supposed life is.
My heart genuinely goes out to anyone who misses the way SMN used to be, because I know it sucks to lose something you love.
That said, I know a bunch of people (myself included) who now love to play SMN because of the changes. I didn't like the way SMN was before, because managing DoT's and the other stuff it was doing just didn't feel like an FF Summoner to me. Now SMN is regularly summoning a variety of Summons, and I love the way it feels to play.
It is most definitely a very easy class with a very straightforward rotation now, but I don't think that's a bad thing. In the same way that I think it's great that BLM exists for the players who want a more challenging experience, I think it's great for there to be classes that are baby-easy for players that would prefer less of a challenge. I think it's great that players with different preferences and different skill levels can enjoy playing the same content together.
Again, my most sincere condolences to those who loved SMN before the rework. It would have been cool if we could have still had new SMN without taking old SMN away from them. I hope folks have managed to find the engagement they lost in other classes.
Again, I feel like there is a level of strange gaslighting here. I rarely see people give the blanket statements OP is describing. Most would agree that you can still enjoy the game whilst also acknowledging the flaws it has, and you are not some sort of sycophant if you do not happen to agree with every flaw an OP has. Would it be fair to say that everyone who had objections about the game should just quit and play something else? Only trolls (And Sith) deal in absolutes most of the time.
