That would honestly shut me up if I was acting up, there's no way I will take you seriously if you get offended. That's what a lot of people fail to realise, disproportionate activism is counterproductive.
As someone who has faced real discrimination irl I really couldn't care less what people have to say about me on a goddamn computer game? People who get mad at stuff like this have not had a single struggle outside of their screens.
Isnt saying you would only react to what you consider appropriate activism and then saying you couldnt care less about what people say about you on the internet a bit of a contradiction? If you didnt care how can it affect your decision? That would honestly shut me up if I was acting up, there's no way I will take you seriously if you get offended. 1 is a realization after it being pointed out that you’re in the wrong. You can still not care what other people think of you while correcting your own behaviour.
People are way too sensitive. This happens in my server real quick sometimes. Someone can make an obvious joke but if there is even a small chance for someone to take offense they will run with it and turn it into this giant crusade.Troll post or not, the online community has definitely changed over the past decade, that is for sure. I made a lighthearted joke the other day about seizures during Ultima Weapon (so bright, such light!) and was told it's not funny and I shouldn't make those jokes.
... I legit had to tell them that I made the joke because I take medication for seizures and I was pointing out the obvious drawback to this cutscene.
It’s like people don’t even care about the spirit in which things were meant anymore. All they care about is taking offense, calling others out and virtue signal to the max like it makes them this “hero” in front of everyone else.
And while I can’t completely verify this. It sure seems they don’t even care about the subject, they just like the attention.
Troll post, but in all seriousness the ToS is why it feels like walking on eggshells. If a random throws an insult toward someone or myself I would not dare fire back because getting banned or punished isnt worth it for some comeback line or roast or w/e. Jokes can also be taken wrongly so its just best not to toe the line there either
If I'm joking around and accidentally offend someone, a light-hearted clap back or even just saying something like ''that's not cool'' makes a lot more difference than calling me toxic and throwing a tantrum. Not because I care that you called me toxic, but because now I won't take you seriously anymore. If you act like a normal person I might reflect on the matter. It's a cry wolf situation
I don't know if you'll read this message, or if I'll even see a reply.
But if you ever get an OLED monitor, those bright lights are going to mess with you even more. Holy heck, FFXIV with OLED is intense. I would definitely warn against it.
Tbh this whole "you can't tell jokes anymore, people are so offended!!111" thing online and offline seems to me like many people just highly overestimated how funny they actually are (or not), simply due to a lack of actual feedback from their irl peers who learned to ignore them... And now everyone is "offended" in their eyes just for not laughing at their bad takes.
I have seen quite a fair share of troll comments (and I don't mean constructive criticism with this, just to be clear) in this game by now. They were extremely cringe or annyoing af, so I asked the person to tone it down. Was I offended by this? Lol no. I just don't want to endure 15+ minutes of super cringy or annoying behaviour just because the person doing the comments can't take people not agreeing with them.

I mean, sure you may not have been offended but I asked someone to not spam their chat macro once and they went on a tirade about how funny the macros are, that people absolutely love their macros and compliment them all the time on them, and that I was just stupid for not understanding humour. And that's more the norm than not from the interactions I see. And not just to me, but to others, as well. So it's not a "common denominator" thing, as some people like to excuse. I've been kicked from a duty for legitimately just saying "can you please dodge the aoes" since I was struggling to heal. I had a guy go nuts on me saying I was going to end up in GM jail or something for saying "you don't have to LB nero" before they reworked Prae. Heck, even on the forums I had someone get so salty and offended that I had told them that someone didn't misspell something but rather it was a different language. Because apparently I had to denounce bullying but I didn't so I was a supporter of bullying in his eyes?Tbh this whole "you can't tell jokes anymore, people are so offended!!111" thing online and offline seems to me like many people just highly overestimated how funny they actually are (or not), simply due to a lack of actual feedback from their irl peers who learned to ignore them... People are nuts. You see it in the real world all the time too, and the game is just a reflection of that.
