Is there too much soy in this game's community

Back in Heavensward and Stormblood you can insult people and mock them and they'll just insult and mock you back. Banter, friendly or unfriendly, was the norm. What happened to this game's community man!? Now you make a mild joke and they collapse and freak out and start crying. People don't even fight back anymore! What happened to FF14? Where is all the testosterone?

If I had to guess: it's because the social vibe of the game is chasing in so many other respects for the worse, such that people are jumping to the defensive quicker not so much because of how the comment affects them, but because of a desperation to preserving XIV as they valued it previously. Also, because general wide spread negativity has drained their resilience.
Lastly because the games centric has changed, and those that remain do so because of traits that... make them to handle things in that way.

Yeah no I mean you pretty much covered it. That and people live by the mantra 'respect is earned' which basically translates to respect my authority or I won't treat you like a person. So no anyone with that mentality can stay on their muddy side of the fence and not even look at my side of the grass lol. Who uses soy unironically anyways?

People unironically claiming emotional harm and distress over getting emoted on in PvP. I feel like I'm playing a game surrounded by people with unmanaged personality disorders or something.

I'll list some things that have been said to me in OSRS by people after they killed me in PvP—things that brought a smile to my face and made me want to 1v1 them again asap.

I remember playing PVP in another MMO with a much smaller player base, where the regular PVPers more or less knew each other on a casual basis and were friendly to one another, and the banter was much worse than this and while I never participated, I could tell that between them, it was mostly done in fun and I could appreciate it for what it was. But whenever some community event occurred that got the wider player base into PVP when they otherwise never touched it, tempers would flare because what worked with the small group of mutual friendly antagonists didn't work with hundreds or thousands of people who don't know each other at all.

I suspect that's the situation here. That kind of banter works with people you know (or have a mutual understanding with even if you don't really know them)--but in a large community of thousands who aren't normally competitive with each other, it doesn't. Which is what FFXIV's PVP is like.
