Since when was "don't be an asshole" so difficult?
I suppose we could just respond with "not cool dude" and leave it at that. Definitely saves a lot of wasted effort. But then people will never learn why they're being an asshole.

It's fine going beyond a mere "not cool dude". The people you are talking about here have a very thick skin and can take it. They wouldnt come crying to the forum about how you're not allowed to make jokes anymore.

In the grand scheme do you telling someone their an asshole will change their behavior in most situations? Assholes often know they are assholes.
You're not wrong.
In the same vein, does telling a bad player they're performing their rotation incorrectly lead to them learning to play better?
Thing is unlike an asshole, sometimes players do not know they are bad or playing poorly. I was an LFR monkey for a time, I thought I was doing fine as a player. I felt LFR content was simply not challenging enough so I went into normal raids, boy was I trash and someone laid into me.
It hurt in the moment, but it was eye opening and I appreciate them telling me I was shit. Gave me the reality check I needed. I think it common for players to think they are doing well cause people stay silent and just carry people.
It is a byproduct of the game itself not pushing players to improve.

You don't understand, "In from the cold" was a REALLY hard part! :^)Thing is unlike an asshole, sometimes players do not know they are bad or playing poorly. That would honestly shut me up if I was acting up, there's no way I will take you seriously if you get offended. That's what a lot of people fail to realise, disproportionate activism is counterproductive.
As someone who has faced real discrimination irl I really couldn't care less what people have to say about me on a goddamn computer game? People who get mad at stuff like this have not had a single struggle outside of their screens.

Isnt saying you would only react to what you consider appropriate activism and then saying you couldnt care less about what people say about you on the internet a bit of a contradiction? If you didnt care how can it affect your decision? That would honestly shut me up if I was acting up, there's no way I will take you seriously if you get offended. If I'm joking around and accidentally offend someone, a light-hearted clap back or even just saying something like ''that's not cool'' makes a lot more difference than calling me toxic and throwing a tantrum. Not because I care that you called me toxic, but because now I won't take you seriously anymore. If you act like a normal person I might reflect on the matter. It's a cry wolf situation
