I’m sorry the classic trope of the power of the heart/hope/friendship overcoming adversity is too carebear for some people. I like it well enough, though. At least so far. Saying FF14’s world is “in shambles” is just melodramatic. lol

Well I suppose I could've used any number of words, others like boring, non-compelling, and uninteresting come to mind when it comes to the state of the world after Endwalker's MSQ.
Most of the nations of the world are holding hands singing kumbaya together after having their unique political systems homogenized into cookie cutter democracies.
The world's main empire lies in ruins with no hope of resurgence as a faction worth my time under the current writing direction, which is intent on turning it into yet another cookie cutter democracy instead of sparing a single member of the royal family to carry them into the future like an Ashe or Larsa character.
Yoshi choosing to wrap up Ivalice in field notes instead of continuing to deliver content related to that universe because the same sort that are enthralled by the cafe of hopes and dreams apparently couldn't tolerate a war story.
Both major deities are dead with none arising to inherit their wills like they did in the Dissidia universe.
This game's afterlife lore is unironically worse than WoW's Shadowlands. Here everyone just melts into the Lifestream as an endless reset button. At least in WoW's universe some people face accountability for their actions after they die.
The First, which was about as high fantasy as this game has ever gotten, did not undergo the originally planned partial rejoining and is still locked in another plane.
The remaining Ascians are dead, or Yoshi has so little interest in them that he has no plans to dedicate anymore storytelling to them.
The Void's inhabitants are about as scary as the pixies from the Persona games, instead of being something that can be taken seriously or induce any sort of fear.
Much as I like the look of Troia Castle and the aesthetics of the Void, there's nothing stopping the Source from having similar traditional high fantasy locations - except oh wait the Source is utterly devoid of such elements for no reason at all.
The world of FFXIV isn't worth spending time in or caring about in its current state. The only way to save it now is to drop another moon on it, rip open Voidgates everywhere and let demons have the run of the place or something similar. We don't have an RPG world anymore, we have Yoshi's playground, and I'm not interested in sitting around playing tea party with the terminator robots and rabbits. A game with no identity, one that I can no longer recommend to anyone with a straight face.

Amazing that you've encountered any episodes in 6.1 or 6.2 so far to actually validate this particular idea. I get it that you're impressionable, and bored, but your description of the current world isn't really what I've encountered in-game at this point.
And there was much rejoicing. Perhaps we can move on from Garleans=Enemy after 10 years. Sorry this isn't what you wanted. To some extent I understand this nostalgia. I certainly didn't like the Horde-side once Garrosh showed up, and I liked it even less when Sylvanus became Horde Leader in Perpetuity. Sylvanus went from likeable character to Evil Boss-Woman Who I Have to Tolerate back in Cataclysm. The world's main empire lies in ruins with no hope of resurgence as a faction worth my time under the current writing direction
After 8 years of that, I finally jumped ship and have only looked back long enough to dislike the new leveling strategies I found during a month of Free-to-Play. The story I enjoyed was lost in the massive jump-skips to BFA at level 20. I hope it doesn't take you that long to get to the same point.
We've been in a "war story" of one kind or another for 8 years now. I think that theme's time has come and gone.because the same sort that are enthralled by the cafe of hopes and dreams apparently couldn't tolerate a war story.
Correction. Both major primals are dead. There are still the Twelve, and whatever/whoever looks after the rest of the world. I understand we've only just begun to explore the totality of that thought, and that further revelations are coming. Both major deities are dead with none arising to inherit their wills like they did in the Dissidia universe.
You are asking a decidedly Eastern development team to adhere to decidedly Western religious themes. You will be disappointed. Blizzard is able to do this because they are a Western development team.At least in WoW's universe some people face accountability for their actions after they die.
Amen and amen to that! What -- you want all of the worlds to be rejoined in a cataclysm of life-removing proportions? The First [...] did not undergo the originally planned partial rejoining and is still locked in another plane.
The remaining Ascians...
So. After this bit of diatribe, I expect to hear you announce your retirement from the game in a final post where you decidedly rip the developers, writers and the Producer. The world of FFXIV isn't worth spending time in or caring about in its current state.
Oh, wait ... you're already doing that. Must be fun for you, even if the only thing you enjoy about the game anymore is complaining about it.
I tried to stay out of this, I really did but...
What the actual <kupo>
First of all, it was Matsuno-san himself who wrote the field notes. Because he writes his stories based on the state of the world, and the state of the world as he was writing Bozja was too bleak (there was also some miscommunication, as Matsuno always wanted the Blades to be cured of their tempering, and was overjoyed when the team told him it was possible, but he didn't know you couldn't cure overtempering before he twisted the Blades into their DR forms). Matsuno himself doesn't want another war story.
Secondly, it's not the end of the Ivalice content, the fact that there's no Ivalice content in EW doesn't meant it's over, both Yoshida and Matsuno have explicitly said they'd love to work together again and Matsuno has even given broad strokes of what he wants the third part of the Ivalice story to be: A story about rebuilding the liberated Dalmasca, because since he's influenced by real life events, he wants an uplifting story about people coming together. As I said the previous paragraph: Matsuno himself doesn't want another war story.
Thirdly, I don't know if you're aware, but Matsuno-san has been very busy with other projects, including a whole remaster of one of his magnum opus (Tactics Ogre Reborn, to be released in like two weeks. I greatly recommend it for people with an ounce of media literacy). And it's generally against Japanese-culture to "play with someone else's toys", so with Matsuno unavailable, no one else would touch Ivalice; however, since Matsuno grew very disappointed with the state of the world after the pandemic, he's also hinted he might be done with writing for quite a while, and in which case he would trust Yoshi-P and team with his scenario for the third act of the Ivalice story. (For everyone else, Matsuno tends to work in 4 Acts, but his comments about it make it more likely that the 3rd would be the final part in the XIV collab).
I am astounded how some people who claim to love Ivalice just completely miss the points in the original series, the XIV-adaptation, and the Ogre Battle Saga; not to mention greatly misunderstanding Matsuno-san. Matsuno and Yoshida are great friends, Yoshida is a huge fan of Matsuno's and Matsuno respects Yoshida's love for his setting and how he understood his themes. And now I will hold my tongue, peace out.
Find me a source straight from the man himself that *he* didn't want another war story. Because far as I know, that's Yoshi talking not Matsuno. Otherwise all you've written are a bunch of paragraphs full of lies trying to justify the ridiculous state of FFXIV's current writing.

Originally Posted by Matsuno via DeepL
Considering the sentiments of today's "FFXIV" players, I thought a war story would be different. There are several reasons for this. The world has become closed due to the Corona disaster, people are fighting each other on the Internet, and various things are divided, so it is not a pleasant world. In the midst of all this, one wonders what it would be like to impose even more stress on players in the form of war.
At the end of patch 5.55, there was a line from Fran, "See you in Dalmasca," which we were actually going to remove. I was actually going to delete it, but I thought that if I replaced it with "See you in Dalmasca when peace is restored" instead of "See you next in the war to liberate Dalmasca," I wouldn't have to delete it.
