A game for 4 year olds

So, apparently there is a quest in the Omicron chain that touches upon the relations between dragon and machine. A long conflict which lasted in countless deaths and the majority of the draconic race being exterminated.

So how is this conflict explored then?

    https://garlandtools.org/db/#quest/70140

    https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/w...the_Dragonstar

They give a ghost dragon a dessert that makes them forget the past and just give up on, being ready to chill with the race that exterminated his, saying that they shouldn’t linger in the past. This is is despite their near-hostile attitude before eating the cake. Vidofnir also doesn’t seem to care much for criticizing Omicrons, even implying that are to to become “friends” instead of old foe.

What the hell is this writing? It’s something ripped straight from a book for four-five year olds’ bedtime stories. “Two boys fought with each other, their mother told them to make peace and so the one that started the fight brought the other a cookie and they lived happily ever after”, except this is applied to planetary extermination.

Tribal quests are not canon. They always do goofy stuff like that in their beast tribe/tribal quest stuff.

Huh. Kinda cruel of you to so casually discount the exploration of Tribal lore and culture like that. A lesser woman might imply something about you from this.

The beast tribe before this has rebels with hippo carts learn to be a part of society instead of fight against it and then solve their problems with a goofy cart race that makes the bad elephant people become friendly at the end.

You can't blame Endwalker again either. Previous beast tribe quests have us build a pretty pink pom plaza with the moogles, dragons, and Ishgardians and teach them the value of friendship. One where we make a festival for a bunch of cartoony catfish people. Another where we teach a tribe of Vanu to dance with confidence. A questline where you help a teen snakegirl prove she's capable to her mom by helping build a hotel. And last but not least, one where you fight children's nightmares to unlock gates to a pixie dreamworld playground and help Titania's reincarnation be friends with the other faeries again.

While most of the beast tribe storylines have been "eh", this isn't something suddenly new that's become a problem with Endwalker.
Actually, it is for the context is entirely different. The Omicrons literally destroyed the dragon's entire race a la Frieza~

I don't recall the Arkasadora Tribe quests involving them magickally making Hippo Carts for the Matanga from the Steppes, or the Hyur tribe they defeated who once tried to destroy them. Did you?

Say you're being disingenuous and arguing in bad faith without actually saying it, for your own dignity.

For one thing, they're not real. They're an interactive simulation made of emotions and memories gathered from an outsider alien's point of view. It doesn't make sense in context for the beast tribe quest set in an end-of-the-world bar in Ultima Thule to be about perpetuating a ghost war.

As for Vidofnir, her grandfather's world was gone long before even her father was born. Actual living dragons that she's responsible for are more important to her than a dead world she'll never see or a speck of space dust out in the cosmos where shades of dead civilizations are trying to group together and make a cafe. She also just got over making peace with a civilization that had been trying to kill her and her people for the past 1000 years and she was the most gung-ho for becoming friends with them. A bunch of simulations of robots made out of magic at the end of the universe means nothing to her so I'm not sure what is expected here except for an excuse to make an "Endwalker bad" post.

If you or the OP actually read the thing they linked and understood the context instead of purposefully trying to make yourselves upset over it, you'd see that the quest isn't about a magic memory-wiping dessert that makes everyone friends now, it's about making something that visually resembles where the dragons live now, directed by living dragons, and sparking memories of their dead world as it was when it was alive while forming a connection between them and the ghost dragon that shows the ghost dragon that their kin fly in skies resembling the home they lost and that things are better now.

Sorry, but ANYTHING that is put in the game is canon. A good writer makes sure it NEVER contradicts itself. You do not get a remake unless you can put it in the story. Square is usually good at it. But sometimes they make mistakes, just as everyone else.

The only exception are the minstrel ballads that are supposed to be exaggerations of what you did by the minstrel. And that's because the minstrel doing exaggerations is on itself canon.

And incidentally, I would say that the most fun part of even its joke questlines is that they're undeniably canon, that even the silliest of gag stories take the world around them completely seriously and even introduce entirely new lore that has multiple times gone on to be seriously used in the core story.

Hildibrand introduced the concept of a primal being accidentally summoned, which the MSQ later saw in Stormblood. It was the first time we heard the full story of Sil'dih way back in the 2.x quests, a part of the setting we only started going into seriously yesterday. It's still the only story that really discusses Hingan politics. The qitari explain what happened to some of the other races on the First, Good King Moggle Mog XII turned out to be a very real historical figure that heavily recontextualized our previous assumptions.

I actually hate Hildibrand's comedy, but I hang on to every word of its story because the comedy questlines have always provided a crucially different, but no less valid, view of the world the game's set in.

Yeah, they should just fight and kill each other. Because that worked so well the first time. Though I would like to know what species attacked the Omicron to make them intergalactic conquerors in the first place.

I honestly had hoped that would be the source of the sound..and the subject of 7.0…but alas the sound was just Meteion and a lot of “whoops those pesky Ascians again lolwtfbbq”.

I suspect it's like with the Garleans: it's not that they had one single nemesis, it's that they were so incapable of fighting back that everything that had reason to take a shot at them did.

In keeping with the back end of Endwalker having a lot of classic sci-fi, the Omicrons are actually damn near bang-on for Doctor Who's Cybermen in terms of concept. While no version of the Cybermen have ever had their origin in wars (that's more the Daleks' thing), they do have a common theme across various incarnations that it almost doesn't matter what sort of adversity caused them to decide augmenting themselves was the best idea; the point is that they did.

I think it was hinted that they bascially were the Garleans of their planet. But unlike Garlemald they were not stopped and thus conquered their whole planet. Afterwards it seems that they were always afraid that some other races from other stars could come and wipe them out. Thus they prevented that by being the one that wiped out others. Until the realisation came that maybe this was all wrong and that they did this for pure destruction.

Anyways I should really not be surprised that some are already complaining about something which nobody of us have even played...maybe play it first and then post about it?

I loved the quests we got for them right now and the new zones are beautiful. But I guess for some its too much that a star of pure dynamis reacts on peoples emotions and creates things for them. Maybe we should have gotten someone with creation magic to do it instead. That would be a power that makes sense. /s

The road of self-defense they started out on became one of conquest, conversion, and in most cases eradication. While yes, the Omicrons in Ultima Thule are little more than echoes modeled after the originals, it's made clear in-game they share in their template's rather detestable tendencies. Countless worlds were ravaged by the original Omicrons, the Dragonstar being but one example.
I mean if we cant forgive recreated beings than doesnt that mean that we also should never forgive the Garleans and any other race that has done something horrible? I understand your view though, I have disliked that they tried to paint people like Yotsuyu or Gaius in a much nicer light than they (imo) should be. But if they can do that with living people I just dont see a reason why it shouldnt be fine with recreations of long death beings.

After all even Emet got a nice fanservice goodbye and that person has helped in destroying whole planets too.
