My biggest gripe is that they don't allow you to gather stuff while on your friend's island.

You can set most "daily" tasks to automate until a certain amount of resources are gathered or feed/seed/currency runs out. Seems to be a couple weeks worth. Animals/plants that are ignored will not die/leave/runaway. Animals will drop to the lowest temperament and stay there and plants will simply cease growing. You can pick up sort of where you left off if life calls you away and it doesn't actually require daily interaction.
mmm... howabout clicking on animals?
It really doesn't get a whole lot deeper. It's clicking on things and planning out chains of production.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
I don't know what depth were you hoping for with something that didn't require your gathering skills.I confess that I only went to get level 2 on this island today, and I only feel like messing with it when I have nothing else to do. What I can say so far is:
- I'm not expecting anything too surprising, as I saw a lot of people complaining and the developers themselves said not to expect too much.
- Robots barely exist and I'm already wondering who thought that robots on a tropical island would be cool. My friends said they take 2 days off or something like that, and then I wonder "if that's the case, why didn't they put something that would go more with the tropical island setting instead of robots?"
- I see everyone saying they need to do daily jobs on the island, like petting and feeding the animals, and that worries me. If I need to take some time off playing, what happens? Will all the rare animals I caught go away?
- Not being able to customize anything on my island gives me zero desire to see it level 10. At the end it's not really mine, it's a lobby like everyone else's.
- So far, I've only walked and clicked on things. I really hope that at some point I'm going to do something more fun than go to a rock, pick up the rock, go to another rock, pick up the rock, repeat
I'm almost rank 7 now, just started 2 workshop level II and 2 granaries level II, they'll finish in 7 hours or so, so I'm hoping that will get me to 7. I'm not really looking at any guides, so i'm sure my production is awful, but I'm getting some cowries but not a lot. I'm going to just keep filling my production with random stuff and collect what I need to level up, while growing crops and petting the animals. Once I get the bike, I'm done, unless they turn it into an actual sanctuary. As it is now, there's nothing peaceful about it.
Go in, get reward, leave (which is sad lol)
Hmm, this is interesting. Thanks for the information. I was worried about taking a break from the game, and when I come back, not having the rare animals I caught(...)Animals/plants that are ignored will not die/leave/runaway. Animals will drop to the lowest temperament and stay there and plants will simply cease growing. You can pick up sort of where you left off if life calls you away and it doesn't actually require daily interaction.
this is really disappointing. A minigame to catch the animals, as we have in Black Desert, or something simple, like "aiming" a pokeball at a pokemon (in pokemon go), would already make things less RNG and more interesting. It's a little boring to click on the animal and hope the RNG works in your favor.
A minigame for fishing, they made such a good one for spearfishing, they have the ability to do something for fishing, too. That would be another interesting activity.
I don't know how to make resource gathering more exciting than just clicking, but what if we had rare items on the island that we could put on display? Extremely hard-to-find items that could be found all over your island at any time, so we didn't have websites telling you where they spawn and when they spawn. This would make exploration a little more exciting, as collectors would have the chance to find something rare.
I believe that if we could also have the visit of the Sions, who randomly appear on the island, doing silly things around, it would also be an interesting addition.
If Urianger came to my island then they better write him out of the story because he's never going to leave.
I'm so sick of the low capture rates. All I have left are the Paissa, Twinklefleece, and Alligator and I used easily over 120 nets on them collectively without any luck. This is an enormous waste of resources and time at this point.
Not everyone is out to min/max cowrie efficiency to get the vanity rewards yesterday instead of 2 months from now.Try to defend SE's weird decision how you want, but in the end, workshop was made as main activity on the island and they choose to make it excel simulator.
Workshop incentivizes going on the island and gathering materials in deficit, better craft requires materials from granary, pasture and cropland and so on. In other words, everything on the island is connected and revolves around workshop. Suggesting to ignore the main attraction and get 4-5x less cowries is just absurd.
The content is what you make of it. You have the choice to make it relaxing, though that means not getting the vanity rewards as quickly, or stressful to get the rewards sooner.
Personally, I'm happier making it a relaxing experience. Some days I want to play the workshop game, some I don't. if I can make the rest days match the days I'm not in the mood, great. If not, I lose a day of production. Not a big deal because I don't need those rewards yesterday.
You might want to watch Josh Strife Hayes' video about how players have stripped the fun out of games by striving for too much efficiency. When the fun is gone, all you're left with is another job and playing the game ends up pointless.
If you don't enjoy the workshop mini-game, don't play it. That simple. If you don't like any of the other activities on the Island, don't do those either. It's dumb to make yourself miserable over a few virtual pixel vanity rewards that aren't required to play the rest of the game.
Then stop trying to capture them. You don't gain any advantage in game play by having them in the Pasture.
to me the biggest MEH is that mountain, it takes like 1/4 of the map maybe? and for what? 2 spots for gathering? its a big waste of space, i hope they will implements tunnels or cave inside it....AND PLEASE LET ME BUILD A COVE FOR THOSE ROBOTS im sick of having them all around me....
