1. I didn't think we consciously used it. As far as I could tell, it seemed to leap to life and purify Zero on its own. I don't see why we wouldn't have wanted to do this, though. We were looking for a sentient voidsent to pump for information, and a purified entity is going to be more compliant and coherent than a corrupted one.
2. Crystals recharge. Just because your cell phone was running low on batteries today doesn't mean that it's going to still be low on batteries a year from now, especially when it's constantly plugged into the charger.

I'm not sure what you're expecting after thirteen sequels. If you don't want reused lore and fan service, then I suggest that you play a game with either a "I" or a blank after its name as opposed to "XIV."

It’s fine if they want to do it for side content like the warring triad trials. Why did we not have a new enemy in the void though? We got zero, Varshahn and his sister as new characters. The team seems to be very competent in making original content related to eorzea as seen in the Aglaia raid. Maybe it’s not that big of a deal, and that I’m just mad about being spoiled for 6.2.
