This 100%. I used to work in games. My spouse is a game dev. The amount of threats, harassment, verbal abuse, etc. that game devs get is appalling. My spouse has literally gotten death threats.

The reality is most game devs are trying their best to make a game that is fun for their players. No company wants to make a bad game or intentionally makes decisions they know will make the majority of players miserable. No they are not perfect, yes they make mistakes or bad decisions. But having played several different MMOs, and having worked in this industry, it seems to me that FFXIV's team listens to its player base way more than some, and is actually trying their best to appeal to multiple different types of players.

Ultimately it is impossible to make everyone happy, because what one player wants may be in direct opposition to what another player wants.

tl;dr It is reasonable for a dev to want to ask players not to be nasty to them. That is not "crying" or disrespecting customers.

If you personally have never lobbed abuse at a game dev, then he wasn't talking to you and you don't need to take it personally. If you have, then it's not violating your rights as a customer to ask you to be a little nicer. You pay to play the game, not to have unrestricted rights to hurl nonstop insults at the devs and expect them to be grateful for it.

One of the things I love about this game compared to other MMOs I have played IS the low tolerance for toxic player behavior. It makes it a much more pleasant experience knowing I can log in and not have to listen to a bunch of nasty comments all day long in general chats or random dungeon groups. It's not that hard to just be polite to others. I respect and appreciate SE for trying to encourage a kind and constructive attitude among their player base. If you want a community where you can be nasty to others whenever you're upset about something, there are plenty of other places you can go do that. I'm glad this is not one of them and it's one of the things that has kept me playing.
