players will always consume content faster than it can be created"They don't drop an entire expansion worth of content in the first patch." Why not? Why can't they do that? Why can't content be front-loaded so people have a lot of options for extensive undertakings whenever they choose to start something new? Post as much content early on as possible and spend the rest of the patches doing balance fixes to make sure everything is refined and we don't end up with another 5.4 mnk situation. Unless the truth is that very little of the content is long-lasting so they need to artificially stretch it out!
its a bigger losing battle to frontload everything
once again ~40 hours of content for MSQ two weeks even if you didn't "no life" it kinda hard not to just eat through that content so quickly also i wonder how many other games release expansion DLCs that keeps players playing for months/years later. hell TF2 has been going strong for 15 years i wonder why even with it not getting supported by valve recently. even without community servers the base game was still being played quite a bit. and i'm pretty sure once the bot situation gets handled it'll go back to being alive in the normal game.

tf2 is 100% multiplayer and based around short 20 minute matches. the repeatability of the game is astronomical
most people do msq once and thats it
an RPG is a different base game design than that of an MMORPG? outside of it basically being more co-op oriented it's essentially still using the same fundamentals you just have 8 different classes compared to say 4 and yet they can release DLC that lasts longer than FFXIVs expansions on release. and no we aren't gonna count withholding content or timegating as keeping players. PvP rework was a godsend for this expansion. as it actually gave people something like TF2 to do while they wait 8 MONTHS for side content thats long lasting. TF2 despite being simple has short matches that are fun and engaging don't misconstrued that part now "FUN AND ENGAGING". TF2 could have longer matches and still prolly be just as popular cause the game itself is FUN and gives people a reason to keep playing. even if you never touch the cosmetic side of TF2
Just so I understand, you are comparing a multiplayer shooter, with an RPGMMO. Do I have that correct? Again that is a MULTIPLAYER SHOOTER with an RPGMMO.once again ~40 hours of content for MSQ two weeks even if you didn't "no life" it kinda hard not to just eat through that content so quickly also i wonder how many other games release expansion DLCs that keeps players playing for months/years later. hell TF2 has been going strong for 15 years i wonder why even with it not getting supported by valve recently. even without community servers the base game was still being played quite a bit. and i'm pretty sure once the bot situation gets handled it'll go back to being alive in the normal game.
the point was that people eat through content so fast that it was impossible to keep something long lasting. hence why i brought up a FIFTEEN year old game that still tops steam charts today. genre literally doesn't matter if you paid attention to what the main argument is. if a multiplayer shooter game can do that for 15 years surely devs can make content that last at least a year for an MMO. hell we've already gotten close with bozja and eureka
Genre actually does matter. You really can't compare anything to an MMO because it's such a massive undertaking and constantly evolving work.the point was that people eat through content so fast that it was impossible to keep something long lasting. hence why i brought up a FIFTEEN year old game that still tops steam charts today. genre literally doesn't matter if you paid attention to what the main argument is. if a multiplayer shooter game can do that for 15 years surely devs can make content that last at least a year for an MMO. hell we've already gotten close with bozja and eureka
It's easy for an FPS to have perceived longevity because there's a modding community that forms around it and can keep things interesting. It's such light work. Devs for those games get to spend some time on one version, maybe throwing a patch or two for stability. Then it's on to the next version with prettier graphics and a different storyline.
hmm yes a game that has recieved little and i do mean very little development basically just bug fixes, for years and yet still remains extremely popular. is in no way shape or form a good thing to bring up for content being hard to make thats long lasting. and as i stated already earlier on, the BASE GAME was still popular as well til the bot infestation.Genre actually does matter. you can't sit here and dismiss a game that "should've been eaten through in like a month and ditched for the next big thing" being popular with little dev support for years. the point was as long as the game is FUN and ENGAGING it'll have staying power once again REGARDLESS of the game genre.
So am I to understand your definition of longevity os being able to do the same gameplay loop for 15 years? Dam FFXIV is only at 8.hmm yes a game that has recieved little and i do mean very little development basically just bug fixes, for years and yet still remains extremely popular. is in no way shape or form a good thing to bring up for content being hard to make thats long lasting. and as i stated already earlier on, the BASE GAME was still popular as well til the bot infestation.

Also do check the steam charts and compare with Lucky Bancho census when you get a chance.
And there we go, you don't find FFXIV content fun and engaging. A subjective preference. Thanks it all makes sense now.hmm yes a game that has recieved little and i do mean very little development basically just bug fixes, for years and yet still remains extremely popular. is in no way shape or form a good thing to bring up for content being hard to make thats long lasting. and as i stated already earlier on, the BASE GAME was still popular as well til the bot infestation.
