But you play a female character, at least on the profile picture. What you mean magically knows your gender? It's pretty obvious which one your character is. Or are you wearing some full plate armour?Aye, pretty much. I play with japanese audio, so everything is okay there. It is mostly the english. They use he/she her/him and the like. I am assuming OP wants the english to at the very least display they/them or something else. When coding a simple small project for a class the program I was using just allowed for me to input the text to fill out pronouns in mass and put place holders similar to a characters name. So it was customizable, you could choose the setting and it would just fill in the blanks accordingly which was why I assumed it would be easy for the english to just add the option and autofill with whatever peoples hearts desired.
Personally I find it weird to begin with how the game just knows magically what my gender was unless they are all pervs or I told them.
Something also my partners mom brought up. She plays male elezen because she likes having a hot dad to look at while she plays, but it would be cool to have the option for the game to know her real life gender. It was just a small thing and by no mean the most important thing. There is just this small feeling for myself that I wouldn't have even told the scions my first name let alone my gender.
Are you sure? I might just be a shorter au ra male? I wear clothing that is not revealing, androgynous in nature. I couldn't get the chest slider any lower, so I suppose the very small bump near my chest could, but it could also just be stuffing. I stay away from the glamour items usually that give the character larger proportions.
If I were wearing many sets of armour it would be harder to tell as well unless you know the exact height range of each individual race. Alternatively if they have access to lodestone to see what gender chose in character creator, which would be cheating. There is no way of know if I am or am not packing heat.
Edit: I mean it is also possible that Roe's are 9 lala's in mech suit.

I have seen some pretty darn gender neutral/androgynous characters during my stay in FF14 land. Gooooooood fricken luck deducing mine if am wearing armor! Are you sure? This has to be one of most harmless threads this Mia has ever seen. Reference text can be altered with code injection no problemo.

Hey hey hey! At least Rathalos panties for males looks pretty good!
Also Frontier Ribbon should be unisex from first![]()
I gotta say the irony is quite something to proclaim that anyone with a differing opinion is not allowed to speak. That's rather hypocritical. This has nothing to do with being in any kind of minority or whatever. You're posting on a public forum you don't own. You don't get to dictate who responds and how they respond!so it's been a hot minute since the last time i saw an active request for pronoun choices in game, either just differing from the sex of the character model, or entirely new pronouns that aren't currently included in the game. So this is my request for SqEnix to look at the option of adding pronoun choices in the game.
Now, before people go off about how much work this would be, and how unreasonable, and how little it's needed, I *know* that it is a lot of work, 10+ years of dialogue, and that the people who need this are a minority, but I still think it would be worth it.
Edit: if you're just going to come and say it's not worth it, please don't comment. If you're going to disparage the queer community, leave.
Do you really know how much work it would be? It's not a simple matter of adding a third option for the script to read off the corresponding gender. There are other terms peppered throughout the whole script. I recall at least a few instances where WOL is called a bastard or a bitch. What exactly is the third option here?
For all that to happen in the first place, there needs to be an actual third gender option. That's a whole can of worms they are not going to go near. It's taken them enough time just to get Male Viera in.
This kind of project would take up a lot of time and you're asking to get it for free
You do realise its not as simple as changing translation text right? look at the character creation screen. I only see male and female. In order to do this they need to add another gender option(s), which might contradict the game's lore. Please try to separate what you see in fantasy game and real life. Obviously other players have to call you by correct pronouns but NPCs dont know about it and in the game there are only 2 genders. Dont see it as something offensive, again try to separate game and rl.
Not only is this easy to do, considering the current pronouns in the script are toggled by little more than a metadata switch—it's already been done by third party sources.
But sure, let's pearl clutch over a harmless pronoun option in a fantasy video game that already has abstract ideas of sex and gender in its lore.![]()
I'm a non-binary player, and I prefer "they/them" but don't get bothered when I'm misgendered. While it would be cool for them to support a genderless option, I also don't think it's really a need either. I know there's an addon for it, though I couldn't say how good it is as it's not one I've ever looked at myself.
I have characters of either gender option, and it makes sense that random NPCs call them by the gender they're presenting as since no one would know you're NB or anything from just looking at you anyway.
All in all, it'd be cool, but I wouldn't be fussed if they don't ever add it either. There's already some hints of it here and there anyway, such as *87 MSQ spoilers*
A pair of Ancients in Elpis who are resting and one of them tells you to be quiet because "they're sleeping" in regards to the one laying down beside them.
I'm happier with more subtle things like that than having a more "in your face" approach, anyway. I know not everyone is the same though.
Will never forget being called "armchair developer" by actual armchair developers without one fraction of experience in software development. Tis always amusing to read posts like "But but it will take forever!" and "You want this for free".Not only is this easy to do, considering the current pronouns in the script are toggled by little more than a metadata switch—it's already been done by third party sources.

Many things others perceive as being difficult are not nearly as difficult as one might imagine. That has tendency to ruin this pristine view so many here have about the dev team and welp. We cannot be having that! Seriously.. the code for that third party tool is publically available on Github. Anyone curious about how it functions can easy see this.
Team could list this as sub project then port to mainline when there is development downtime. Happens all the time. Projects are listed as not priority but work on if you have free time and are looking for something to do. Would be surprised at how much downtime exists across each team.
This is why I am just....sigh I only expected this. I was hoping to weigh in as a 'yes I would like this and it would be cool, but they really don't have to.'Not only is this easy to do, considering the current pronouns in the script are toggled by little more than a metadata switch—it's already been done by third party sources.

The fact that people brought up their female character being called him/his in the quest "Frozen Hope", and with the text for emotes in the chat you can turn on and off for a gold saucer emote as well as the new clutched head emote was even noticed and reported is very surprising. People reported the bugs, and yes they are bugs, but if it ultimately doesn't matter to anyone why not just leave it as it is. Surely being called the right thing matters to people more than they let on. It is only when they are in that situation they would suddenly have a problem with such thing, but will most likely be the first to come into a thread like this and say it does not matter. Oh lordy I wont even get into the changes the devs did go through with that no one asked for or very few ask for in private that they may have gotten.
In character creator you could only choose either female or male character, so I went with the one that was the same height and look I wished for. I am convinced though that many have never heard of stuffing, tuck and fluffing, those with multiple parts, or those who may just wish to not be labeled one particular gender.
So, I will just stick with what works for me, and watch how many more people lose their mind over someone just asking something they may feel strongly about. I am so glad I don't have to depend on the devs or a majority vote in this thread to all agree 'yes' for them to even think about having an option put into the game.
