I had a really clever and witty response that would have been just the most amazing thing any of you have read on the internet today, and then I realized the age of the thread and decided not to because I don't believe in necro'ing old threads...

    Oh crud.

I wouldn't mind having the option to switch male/female pronouns, though. Some NPCs already do that after all, and it's really just a matter of flipping a switch with the data. It would definitely require minimal effort, and I think that would be pretty cool.

I can only speculate, but I think that everyone here is responding the way they are because they already deal with these issues in society everyday. The LGBTQ+ community has become such a toxic minority to the point where people have to either conform to their ideals or be labeled as some kind of disgusting human being. People come to this game to get away from reality and just relax and have fun with others. Inside the confines of this game, no gender politics, LGBTQ+ drama, or any other political issues should matter. But even in a fantasy game that has complete anonymity, it's just never enough. Its the entitlement and the narcissism of these said individuals that people are taking issue with.
I remember when Eternal Bond was first being introduced to the game, and the devs initially announced that it would not allow characters of the same sex to get married. Some players posted threads requesting to allow gay marriage, and those threads were immediately hammered by hostile comments insulting them, accusing them of bringing "real life politics into my fantasy game," calling them whiny and entitled, acting shocked and offended that opposing gay marriage was seen as "homophobic," saying the game shouldn't cater to the demands of a toxic minority, "I don't have any problem with LGBT folks, I just don't want their agenda shoved down my throat," etc. The rampant, raging homophobia was just as obvious and transparent as the transphobia in this thread is.

None of you had to get "gay married." None of you have to call yourself they/them or any other pronouns you don't want to be referred to as. You don't have to become friends with gay players, or trans players, if you don't want to. You don't even have to talk to them. The feature OP was asking for, if implemented, would affect none of you whatsoever. It was just about how NPCs would refer to the player, in their own MSQ and personal dialogues. You probably wouldn't even notice it was an option, unless somebody told you about it.

Why are you people all so offended at being called "transphobic?" Do you truly think you're not? Do you even think being transphobic is bad?

You don't want trans people to be called the pronouns they identify with. You don't want the game to allow player characters to be trans. You don't want to see any trans characters running around Eorzea. You don't even want players to be able to privately choose their own pronouns for the purposes of NPC dialogue you would never bear witness to. You basically insist that FFXIV officially be a completely trans-free experience, from what I can tell. If that's not transphobic, somebody please tell me what is. Do you have to be literally in the process of murdering a trans person?

For what it's worth, I agree that adding non-binary or other pronouns to the existing script of the game would be a monumental task and probably an unrealistic goal for FFXIV at this point. Letting players choose between he/him or she/her might be possible, perhaps even as simple as flipping a variable to one thing or the other thing. After all, those pronouns are already fully supported in the game. Depends how it's all programmed, I guess. But we have PLENTY of threads on the forums asking for HUGE features that would take even more work than this, and they don't get even 1% of the hate and rage as LGBTQ subjects do. Do you think the "Stop feeding the troll" and "Can't believe this crap thread is still up" guy puts this much effort into every thread he doesn't like? He does it a bit, sure, but there is a vastly disproportionate amount of effort here, more than anywhere else. Don't tell me these forums don't have homophobes or transphobes. I'm not blind.

Now, before people go off about how much work this would be, and how unreasonable, and how little it's needed, I *know* that it is a lot of work, 10+ years of dialogue, and that the people who need this are a minority, but I still think it would be worth it.

Edit: if you're just going to come and say it's not worth it, please don't comment. If you're going to disparage the queer community, leave.

This is what bothers me. NPCs don't refer to the player, they refer to the character you play, regardless of who the player is. So it is irrelevant what the player identifies as. The character you play is either male or female, nothing else.

Alright, I'll do it. I'll be that guy.

You can't be Transphobic against Transtrenders. I remember a time when actual trans people would transition to the gender they identified as and then quietly assimilate into society.

Today, "trans people" always have to make a scene about being trans. They announce their "gender identity" and their pronouns to everyone, they demand other people change the way they act and speak to cater to their whims, they demand the Entertainment industry tailor their products to them specifically, (such as this very thread), and then when they get even the smallest amount of pushback, everyone else is the problem.

Today's "trans people" are not trans; they're just narcissistic attention seekers, and it's so blatant that everyone can see it. They're literally demanding the entire world change just for them, and their response to any dissent, is to just label it all bigotry, transphobia, etc, etc. Most of us don't hate trans people; what we hate is the blatant narcissism on display, and the people displaying it, acting as if we're all too stupid to see it for what it really is.
