This is a Final Fantasy game. It’s a turn based JRPG that they transformed into an MMORPG.

When you picture the game through that lens, it makes sense as to why it doesn’t have a lot of the design that WoW has. It’s intentional.

No one on the Japanese forums are asking for this game to more resemble WoW design choices. They understand this is a FF game first and an MMO second.

You must hate Emerald weapon cause it has both the circle one and the square one, though I find that one sufficiently challenging on Minimum item level

In my experience/memory lots of people skipped the trash mob back in ARR - parties with 8 people from 8 statics forming for T1 on reset-day to clear the trash mobs so that they statics could all just jump to the boss, everyone switching to tank for T3 so that you could ignore all mobs you didnt had to fight to unlock teleporters, our static used to have one person (a ninja) sneak through the little labyrinth section in T10 so that we could teleport to the boss instead of clearing the way.

...maybe those are only my memories and other people remember fighting more or less intresting trash mobs week after week before getting to the real fight fondly...

    Sorry but that's BS.

They've already prooven in ARR with Coil of Bahamut that they are capable of creating a lore rich raid with fitting environments.
They also did that in HW with Alexander in weaker form IMO.

Since when is environmental story telling a wow exclusive thing ?
That has nothing to do with it being a FF game.

Personally i see a lot of advantages when it comes to arena based "raids" without trash or long routes to the boss.
At the same time i also made the same experiences as Neuron already mentioned.
Like, that i also have trouble remembering about many parts of certain raids because of the lack of the environment.

For me it all comes down to the fun ingame and to create great memories while playing it.
And i had a lot more of those in Coil and Alexander than in any other raid, with the environment being one of the main reasons for that.

again... is everyone purposely ignoring that not the OP or any of us are talking about trash?

why is everyone thinking that having more than a crappy square means trash mobs?

do you remember the first fight of coil? the serpent that divided into 2? that fight has a nice tunnel that goes from the starting part of the raid to the boss, we mean things like that and not "trash before bosses"

we just hate the idea of teleporting yourself into a floating square

So, to be 100% sure, you just want a (long?) corridor devoid of any trash or interaction before the aforementioned square/circle arena where you actually fight the boss? And what happens when you inevitably wipe during that fight (even the best groups don't one shot savage fights)? You go back to the beginning of the corridor to treck back again? Seems needlessly punishing, don't you think? Or should we take a page from Alliance Raid design and put a "crystal" that allows you to skip the running and just teleport to the bo... Wait a second...

Yeah, what does the long corridor you will only run once add?

Like my favorite raids in WoW are Throne of Thunder, Siege of Orgrimmar, Blackrock Foundry, Hellfire Citadel and Icecrown Citadel not just because of the bosses and the lore but also because of the raid environments.

But the raids and trials in FFXIV have no environments, the fights take place in just a square or circle arena. That is why I can't remember the raids and trials by name. I can name the bosses because they are memorable but I can't remember the instance name because they have no environments.

So I request square enix and Yoshida, please ditch the square and circle arena for trials and raids and make actual raid environments.

Nah, I think we're fine. I hate trash upon trash upon trash for raids and I like the single boss format. Get in, get it done, get out.

If I want wow style raids I'll play that
