I would say you're being rather uncharitable if you consider just the split mechanic to be the "hardest". There's lots to keep track of and lots that if done incorrectly will either wipe the whole thing or make it MUCH harder for everyone else. It’s more than many can keep up with but i don’t think that instantly makes it deemed as challenging, if anything it just means that portion of the playerbase isn’t very good to put it bluntly which is fine. But when the hardest mechanic in that raid series is simply 6 people splitting into a group of two i think there’s uh….player error there.
Either way there are important mechanics to be done, unlike the level 50 alliance raids which have been reduced to zerg fests.
Which is what I am implying. There are already varied arenas being used, so why does everyone talk about circles and squares like that's all that ever gets used. There's people who'll get all nitpicky saying those are still circles.. but really, how complicated does it have to get?
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
I can just imagine how much black mages would enjoy a ceaseless run-and-gun battle, yeah.It would be great if we would get more Trials which are similar to the Vishap Fight, where we have to defeat it before it reaches its goal, or the other way arround, where you have to run away from a Boss instead and have to fight adwaves until you reach a save spot where you can attack the Boss.
Go check out all the people in the Alliance roulette cheesing thread howling about how they'll die before they consent to be put into Orbonne or Dun Scaithe because they're certain Doomgaze and Orlandeau will spend an hour mopping the floor with their face.
"Difficult" for a savage raider is not the same as "difficult" for the average player of this game.
All MMOs use a contained area for boss fights but they each size it and hide or show it differently.
FFXIV’s 8-person is just a little more in your face about the container and it is often smaller.
That noted. Alliance raids are NOT WoW LFR so of a bigger container is important go there. Past the ARR one they actually have a need for strats, and the newer you go the more involved they get.
It would be nice if the container of 8-person fights was larger, less obvious (the recent obsession with having it be floating in a void is rather dull), and had some shape variation… But the size they use works well for making it easy to balance between melee and ranged and more mobile vs more stationary classes.
So you want to fight through trash till you get to the bosses. I guess thats a viewpoint, but I disagree and don't think it adds anything to the game. There is a reason everyone started calling them trash mobs you know? You don't understand. I am talking about raid environments. Like for example Icecrown Citadel was a huge ice fortress of undead, Blackrock Foundry was a huge weapons producing factory, Siege of Orgrimmar was about raiding the capital city of the Horde, Hellfire Citadel was a giant fell castle full of demons and fell orcs, etc. Thats the environment I am talking about. In FFXIV those type of environments doesn't exist. We just queue for a raid in duty finder and get teleported to an circle or square arena.
Is there another geometric shape you would prefer? A dodecahedron perhaps?
FF is FF.
It doesn't need to copy other games nor do other games need to copy them.
You re wasting your time, we ve been providing this feedback since ARR launch in 2013.Say what you want about WoW but atleast that game knows how to make immersive raid environments. I am not saying FFXIV's raids are bad compared to WoW. The raids in this game are awesome with fantastic bosses and complex mechanics. But the main problem in this game is there are no raid environments compared to WoW. Like my favorite raids in WoW are Throne of Thunder, Siege of Orgrimmar, Blackrock Foundry, Hellfire Citadel and Icecrown Citadel not just because of the bosses and the lore but also because of the raid environments.
But the raids and trials in FFXIV have no environments, the fights take place in just a square or circle arena. That is why I can't remember the raids and trials by name. I can name the bosses because they are memorable but I can't remember the instance name because they have no environments.
So I request square enix and Yoshida, please ditch the square and circle arena for trials and raids and make actual raid environments.
Bcoil had this in ARR to some extent and it was scrapped from HW and onward.
Um, they do exist. It's called Alliance Raids.
