this is the biggest problem with the hardcore vs. casual type debates i see on this forum, too. neither side seems to understand that the game needs to please *both* demographics, and everything in-between.

too often the hardcores say "nope, the game isn't hard enough. make THE ENTIRE GAME harder" just as too often the casuals say "nope, game is too hard. the ENTIRE GAME should be easier and more accessible"

but for a successful MMO you need to appease both camps. you need content for the casuals and you need content for the hardcores. you need to listen a fair bit to both. and you have to bridge the gap.

(that said- so far this game doesn't seem to be doing much of anything at all to appease us hardcores, but that's another argument entirely)

tl;dr starting discussion in an open forum only to cross your arms and say "well i want nothing to do with YOUR side/opinion" is counterproductive. if you don't want to give another opinion the time of day, why even bother offering yours?
I simply don't see the point of arguing back and forth about something that I know I don't agree with. When people get all up in arms about "close-mindedness" they are really just angry that the other person doesn't agree. I'm willing to say, "Yeah, we don't agree. I have my opinion, you have yours." I fail to see how that is offensive. Perhaps it's how I'm wont to word things.

I think there is only so much of "everything" that can be squeezed into a game. I'd rather not see the game try to please everyone. I'd like it to do well, but not so well that it pulls in so many people that it becomes bloated and hollow from a social standpoint. Perhaps I have just come to feel that this was one driving force behind both online FF games, and it is my hope that the devs can be reminded of that, and made aware of the potential pitfalls of going down the wrong path. It may not be the wrong path to you, but what am I to do other than advocate that which I think is best? That's the only thing that makes sense.

The problem is how you said it.

It comes off as ignorant and close minded.

You are right to voice your opinion, But who are you to deny the possibility that SE could give to 'The Hardcore' 'The Casual' and the in between, I believe what a lot of ppl have been trying to say and what you've been ignoring is that SE should have content that is for the elitist and the casual gamer and the ppl in between, not just one.

Well, I'm not too worried about how it comes off. I have a certain way of explaining myself, and I can't really stress over it too much. I realize I'm new here, so perhaps you just need time to get used to how I word things. You can rest assured that my words are probably not intended to be as caustic as they might appear. I just know what I want and I speak my mind.

With that said, I haven't denied the possibility of anything. I've simply stated what I think is a bad idea and what I hope to God will not come to pass. It's not even an issue of hardcore, casual, etc. I don't even want to label myself with any of those terms. It is not at all about difficulty, as far as I am concerned, but all about community. And, by community, what I mean is something other than entering a random dungeon full of people I don't know, where all they do is fight and argue over gear, and I end up being the only one trying to pry them apart and keep everyone from ruining the entire run. You have no idea how tired I am of dealing with that, and the reason it appears to be happening is because there is no recourse for people who act that way, because they know they will never see the other players again (being on different servers and all). My desire is to avoid that in this game, if at all possible.

Really? I love going into a random group and seeing chaos take the reins. It's fun to lose some times.. All the years that a played FFXI nothing was more fun than making a group full of random ppl and just talking about random crap while you play and even dying was funny (assuming it didn't happen every 2 seconds)... You should take some time out of your day and throw a water balloon at someone or something.. great fun.

I'm not sure if you understand what I'm saying. It was fun to group with people and talk, laugh, have a good time, and even make light of our failures. I'm talking about groups that go something like this (and no, this is not a log, it is a recreation of an experience as best I can remember it):

*everyone zones in, no one says anything*
*tank is obviously new, is having a rough time, I'm on an alt, so I'm not healing this time*
Healer: tank u suck stop being suck
Tank: I am here to gear up so that I don't suck. Please be patient while I do my best.
Healer: no u need to die pls go kill urself lol
Tank: What the hell is your problem?
Healer: u suk and we only live because I am best heals
*this goes on for a while, other two DPS are afraid to say anything*
Me: Guys, if you keep fighting, we will never get done, and you will be forced to deal with each other even longer. Can't we just agree to play nice, do our best, and then say our farewells?
Tank: Yes, please. Let's do that.
Healer: we only dont fail becuz im best heals!!!!111!

Just one example of many. I could go into the run where I was yelled at for rolling on a piece of gear I needed because some dbag wanted to sell it for gold, or the time people exploited a bug to keep queuing in a finished dungeon in order to mess up other players' dungeon cooldown/recast (you can only run one every 15mins), but...yeah. :/

This doesn't change my view. I have been in many parties like that across all the MMO's i have played and every time it still gives me a laugh. At the end of the run in that situation i would give the tank a few tip's and tell him to keep trying and started mocking the healer, Cause like all humans.. I find it fun to mock ppl and see things go horrible wrong at the worst time in a game cause it's just random and funny to me...

Totally agree with this. Besides LS events, the most fun I ever had was in random groups, meeting tons of interesting, fun people, and even the unfortunate jerk at times. lol Even when things went wrong I was having fun more often than not.

Maybe we Lalafells just have more fun. ;3 lol

It's the freedom to have random fun that makes MMO's so appealing to me, As long as i can go out and explore and just do what ever comes to mind I'm happy. Never know what shiny treasures await you at the end of a corridor, Maybe even monsters!

On a more on topic note, I love the idea of a content finder but because FF has always seemed like more of a social game i believe if one is to be added it should be limited to your own server so that any friends you happen to make you can continue to play with. WoW's dungeon finder is great cause the game never really seem like one where i should be making friends.. All seemed to be about the progression. I love the ppl ya meet in FFXI and FFXIV, mostly friendly but get the odd person that doesn't wanna play nice but that's what makes it fun.

Your wrong and right, Everyone is different and should voice their opinions, Whether or not they care about other ppl's views doesn't matter, what matters is whether or not you care about your views. Also it's because everyone is different that no one is special and thus we resort to majority rules.
