I liked it, but I got something else entirely from it.

First fight, with the very first guy, I nearly died.

My first response: Holy shit, my character is so much more powerful than your average fighter/soldier in this game. This is what it's like to be a regular person. This is what it's like to not be the Warrior of Light.

After I realized that, other things fell into place. My HP is not restoring itself, so I need to use medkits. Each fight might be my death, so I need to sneak around mobs, or run from battle and hope they rubberband. In the course of doing these things, I gathered many supplies. I had maybe 5 or 6 medkits before the next time I got forced to fight something.

My second response: This guy would be totally screwed if I wasn't in control of his life right now. This guy would not survive any of these encounters, he'd be dead.

That's when it clicked for me. I am the difference maker in every situation.

We, the players, are an essential part of the Warrior of Light. Take away our character, with their powerful weapons, incredible magicks, powerful aether, and blessing of light, and shove us into the body of a hapless, merely vulnerable soldier, a ready-made victim, and yet we still rise to the challenge. We will drag ourselves through the dirt, hand over hand, to save our friends, our world.

    It is an incredible duty.

I literally just told something like this to my friend on the phone. This duty shows the difference between our WoL in everyone else so good. You said it perfectly.

I can see the difference between Kyssa and the rest of the rank and file enemies we deal with without being forced to play an extremely unfun duty.

I don't like playing as Thancred, Alphinaud, Uriange, Yshtola, Bob, Jim, Ted, Alice, Gertrude, or anyone else. I want to play Kyssa, MY character. I don't find it fun to play another character that I didn't create. I don't care how creative the quest is if it forces me to play in a way that's not fun.
