It's not like they deleted the whole job or something, literally just slightly altered the icon design because it was making some players uncomfortable. Like apart from them doing this out of concern and kindness, it's also rather smart from a business standpoint considering that they have merch with the icons on it. It's not good from a marketing/business standpoint if a design choice causes people to have negative reactions because then those people would just not buy the merch, and obviously SE wants them to. Based on the overreactions, it looks like quite a few people think that this is akin to holding the devs at gunpoint when it's actually in their best interest and results in good PR.
Probably because they listen to the minority for many things and don’t listen or address major things that have been around for years.
