Cant wait to have Samurai removed due to fear of bladesWellp, pack it up ya'll, fun is being removed from the game now that they changed a single job icon. SE are now turning over a new leaf and are intent on changing all things that could trigger a phobia. That clearly means the game must simply shut down as anything and everything could present as a phobia.
There's no possible way that a dev or Yoshi-p himself happened to see or hear about the discussion and figure that changing a job icon; that no one seemed to feel very strongly about either way, was an innocuous enough change to make a handful of players feel a little more comfortable amidst everything else in the game that may trigger a strong sense of disgust from them.
Long gone are the days when someone with the omega mount flying above me would illicit such a violent, primal response of disgust and pain that I would visibly crumple in my 400$ gamer chair.
Never again will Saint Mocianne make me pray to every god in the universe to release me from my mortal coil the moment I laid eyes on the honeycombs on all the wall.
This slippery slope is in full effect boys and we're riding it straight into a world first phobia-free calamity!
the entirety of the ruby sea due to swimming fear etc
oh my god SE what have u doneeeee

I mean it's not really overreacting since it's completely stupid. Not the change itself but the reasoning. There is much stuff inside the game that can trigger all sorts of phobias. Especially the one that caused this here. So why the heck changing the job icon if the game is basically a giant phobia trap no matter if you are afraid of holes or spiders or clowns (yeah i look at you Ferdiad you sick voidsend) or whatever.
So it makes basically no difference that is the problem. It's not even about that they used their time to do that instead other things, since i don't think that redesign took more than 30min.
It's like baking a glutenfree raisin bread for your friend who has a gluten and raisin allergy.
I'd consider the 'overreaction' to be the icon itself being changed rather than the disbelief voiced in response.
For example, it isn't actually helping people who suffer from trypophobia because there's many more items, icons and environmental designs such as coral and giant honeycombs that have far more numerous holes clustered together. Somehow I doubt that they'll be changed and surely they've been a bigger problem for individuals who suffer from the phobia in question?
Furthermore, what about the other job icons? Aichmophobia is related to fear and discomfort brought about by sharp objects. Should we change and remove every pointy item and weapon in the game to be safe?
This sort of approach never works well and simply promotes the idea that if people complain loudly enough, they can weaponise requests to get stuff pulled from the game either during or after development.

Your Whataboutism is correct, we're better off not changing anything ever unless we change everything always.I mean it's not really overreacting since it's completely stupid.
