Karma system in the official forums?

Having done what the OP asked and checked posting history to verify, I don't think this is a troll sock puppet. Just a poster of bad takes.

Unless this Titanman everyone talks about is playing the long con and had a puppet be semi reasonable at various points to cloud their trolling intentions. In which case why use a Roe as their character. Like, 90% of the time I see someone accuse a poster of being Titanman, the OP is a Roe.

All you need to do is look at their lodestone profile and you can clearly see that OP is an alt character. They have all of the telltale signs:

1 combat job at 80
All crafters + bot and miner at 80
In a solo FC
Only the mounts and minions you would get from job boosting a character

Infact, take a close look at the lodestone profiles of the posters of the 'November isn't fall' and 'Balance admin drama / FFXIV has a bad story' threads. Remarkably similar, no? Fits the same profile as I listed above with even more similarities. Same character birthdates, both unlocked gladiator to level 2 with exactly 500xp, both unlocked fisher and are on 200xp, mounts and minions are identical (apart from one having the unicorn because they job boosted WHM). The fact that they are so similar you could also say that their movements and levelling were somewhat...scripted. If you know what I am saying.

Yeah, it feels like, like the game, the forum is being overrun with bot accounts... Its made them much worse than they used to be.

I have 3 kin medals and only 2 post medals, with 4900 odd posts., and I haven't seen a silver medal in ages...

i have 2 of them and never once created a thread, so i don't think so.

Art theft is insanely rampant on Reddit, I've seen people go as far as to use Patreon rewards to fake '' evidence '' that it's their work when people call them out on it too even tho the actual artist is on Twitter saying it's not them lol.
In the end it doesn't matter tho because they've already got their 10k+ upvotes or whatever.

Edit: Also, I hate how people abuse the downvote on Reddit.
People downvote others for very simple disagreements or out of spite, it creates echo chambers and makes people scared of having opinions.
It doesn't even need to be a controversial opinion.

I generally hate how people behave around art on Reddit in general people are insanely rude especially when it's anything that could possibly be seen as even mildly suggestive and is a female character.
Even on the FFXIV subreddit there's a lot of unnecessary rudeness towards people which is especially bad since the art is usually peoples OC's they've commissioned art of.
But then in the comments it's always people who have to complain because there's *gasp* cleavage or whatever EVERY chance they get.
If you speak up at all about that you get dogpiled with downvotes because they're super dedicated, the art can be 99% upvoted but the comments can be super negative with dedicated haters.

I dunno why but Reddit is just especially bad, I actually think that Twitter is less toxic and that's saying a lot.

I think that simply having a like system is fine, generally it gets the same point across but without the people just abusing downvotes/ not useful out of spite or for simple disagreements.

With that said maybe special commendations would be okay too.
But I think that as soon as you add a negative thing it very easily just turn into the same thing.

True I had someone use my art before claiming it was their own. Oddly enough it was not even me that outed them it was the friend I did the artwork for.

Though truthfully I have never really gotten upset when someone claims my art for their own or even profit form it tbh I find it sort of flattering. Though yeah reddit and the internet in general is bad about using the work of others as their own.

Reddit is long known to be a place where the majority opinion rules all, even when it is wrong. A karma system, just like modern SNS platforms, does nothing to make a community better; all it does, is making a community more niche, as the karma system marginalizes people who don't agree with the community's "mainstream" opinion, and encourages back-patting among people with the same opinion. Eventually, the community becomes one where only the mainstream opinion exists.

A karma system also doesn't distinguish between karma from humor versus karma from presenting useful information and thoughtful discourse. This means people who believe in karma points may end up trusting bad opinion from a completely uninformed source who just happens to have high karma from humor (and oftentimes bad humor borderlining on internet bullying).

Having more likes/upvotes doesn't make one right. We already know karma systems are better at building niche communities than at building inclusive communities.

Now that you mentioned the humor that's something I didn't think of until now but it actually does make sense too.
So much of it is just dismissing people by being shitty towards them then hiding under the guise of '' it's just a joke bro '', basically acting like you don't care about anything yet spending hours making fun of people for caring about something is seen as a virtue.
You don't even need to make an actual argument, you just need to act like you're above it all and mock people.
To some extent you see this on this forum too but people don't have as much power to shut other people down as they do on Reddit.

It doesn't help either that a lot of the people who spend the most time on social media and more universal forum websites also have a tendency to be perpetually online.
Like I care a lot about censorship of art, but good luck having a reasonable discussion about that on Reddit or basically anywhere ( but especially Reddit ).
People bring so much baggage in from e-drama they just expect everyone to know about or be in on and a part of.
As if it's impossible to care about something and it not being due to alterior motives.

But hey it's easier to just strawman and downvote someone to signal to others then mock them and bathe in the likes and circlejerk each other.
