    WoW's forums used to have a like/dislike system that had dislikes removed as they fostered echo chambers and abuse. Even their post flagging system is used abusively, to bury stuff they don't agree with rather than truly offensive or rulebreaking content.

    We don't need that type of thing. Thanks, but no thanks.

    To be fair, isn't trolling against the rules? Do the mods respond to reports? And can they discern trolling from dissenting opinion?

    I don't feel we need a dislike feature to protect from trolls.

    Isn't that essentially what the medals are. The blue ones are based on the number of posts the red ones based on reputatuion or something like that.

    So if you have a lot of blue medals but no red ones you post a lot but your rep sucks.

    If all your medals are red then your rep is solid.

    I don't actually know the specifics because I've basically never cared. but seem to recall it beingsomething along those lines at least

    As far as I remember it's:

    1 for likes given (kin), 1 for likes received (kin), 2 for post count, and the last two I've no foggy idea how they work. <- known info

    There are four kin medals and two (red) post count medals. Blue medals are just a different 'value' of the post count medal.

    If I had to guess one might be posting in all the different forum areas, because I almost immediately got one for posting in the lore forum once (although I had made a bug report around the similar time), and then maybe posts outside of GD, # of reports, or some magic ratio. It's quite easy to get 4 medals. At the time I got fifth and sixth was around the time I had made a report and posted for one the first times in the lore forum. Long ago there was an individual that had like 10 medals in the Japanese forum, like in 2012 lol, so I wonder if sometimes it's just from the CM / One Eye'd Demon. I seriously don't know for sure on those last two though, they just come around at some point lol. It could even be something as silly as login each day consecutively for X number of days. Alternatively maybe it's simply two for likes given and two for likes received and they're just huuuge numbers, 100 likes given and then like 10,000 likes given for the second one lol.

    Yeah I'd rather not creep closer and closer to China's social credit score system, we got post history if we wanna find out what kind of poster someone is.

    Eh, this would end up like Reddit with unpopular/dissenting opinions being buried.

    Rank 2: 10 -> 19
    Rank 3: 20 -> 29
    Rank 4: 30 -> 49
    Rank 5: 50 -> 99

    Rank 7: 250 -> 499
    Rank 8: 500 -> 999
    Rank 9: 1000 -> 1999
    Rank 10: 2000+

    The left side are just called "kin" in the filename (does that mean anything?) and not everyone has these "kin" medals. You can have between 0-3 kin, and any you have appear as a single gold medal each. You can select/highlight someones medals to check which is left/right (rank medals are multiple medals in same image, "kin" are separate medals).
    So yes, these "kin" medals are more or less the karma you gained from the like button.
