This would just be a kenki copy like Sam, so I don't think they'll go this way, as it would feel too much of a copy-paste and lazy fix.
But you never know, what's worse is that you may be right with this.
Still not sure if Samurai's a tank who forgot that aggro was a thing or a dps that's way too much into it.
You're right, but it's also basically what they did to change Ninki. The bigger issue though is that it would be pretty redundant with Chakra if that were just the case and frankly, chakra needs an overhaul as well (more so than GL IMO).

With the changes for Form Shift and Perfect Balance coming up I don't think we will see a change to GL at all really. I believe we will get something akin to ninja Huton with a 24 sec timer, but the buff increases our damage based off of the traited values. I personally would like to see a GL resource gauge 1-100 with these traits.I'm still not entirely sold that changing Greased Lightning into something indistinguishable from what it currently is is necessary, but I'm willing to wait and see what they produce at this point. They've done very poorly by Monk specifically because of how they've hyperfocused on Greased Lightning upkeep in the past. In the opposite vein they've done well by most of their recent overhauls in my opinion, and reworking GL means reworking all of the extraneous GL upkeep stuff and TK at the minimum which addresses at least some of the issues we have with it.
Level 1 GL #1 +8% speed bonus trait, GL timer added when you finish a combo
Level 15 GL #2 +8% speed bonus trait
Level 50 GL resource gauge added, Dragon Kick auto GL spender added (explained below)
Level 65 GL #3 +8% speed bonus trait
Level 75 GL #4 +8% speed bonus trait
Dragon kick - spends 10 GL automatically from the resource pool to grant Leaden Fist for Bootshine crit.
Perfect Balance - works like Blood weapon and generates GL resource in the same fashion. No longer allows attacking outside of forms. Level 50
Form shift - resets the timer to max and changes forms reducing the need to spam since the GL timer is now 24 sec
First Combo finisher GRANT the timer and generate 15 GL, 20 GL is gained using positional's correctly on the finisher. Potency upgrades are removed from non-combo finishers. This helps encourage the use of gaining max GL while still having the positional's but being less strict.
Anatman - Generates GL overtime while casting. In combat generate GL at a rate of 100%, Can be used outside of combat but generate GL 33% of the rate of in-combat.
Tornado Kick - High potency attack that uses 50 GL resource 6 second cooldown
Elixir Field - changed to 30 GL spender and cooldown reduced to 6 seconds
SSS - changed to oGCD GL 25 GL spender, touch of death added to target on use duration 24 sec
Brotherhood - Works as usual only now Effects Melee and Magic skills. Damage buff removed. Grants 5 chackra initially. Only one buff of brotherhood allowed at a time.
Potency on all skills adjusted to be on par with SAM or NIN, and would this BREAK the game and or job. MOST CERTAINLY. But again this how I would like the class to play, with it's identity intact, added complexity, more peaks and valley burst damage like warrior, and more importantly. FUN! This would be a class that I would play....ALOT!
But we are never going to get this, and I can wish and hope right. 5.3-5.4 will tell the story and we will have to wait and see.
I won't pretend to know anything about this job. I just started playing it and currently sub-lv50. What I do know (and sorry if this has already been mentioned) is that MNK seems to lack a complimentary skill to Shoulder Tackle. I would love a kick-flip ability that quickly takes us out of melee range. Two consecutive hits with each foot for around 120pot total with a sweet backflip animation.
They could integrate it with the kit such as resetting the timer on Shoulder Tackle, but would definitely want to avoid homogenizing this job with SAM, but I consider quick means to get in and out of melee range to be essential utility for the melee jobs and MNK is missing theirs.

As a Buddhist, I find Anatman offensive. Anatman is a core principle to Buddhism, how dare they suggest it's useless and redundant. Anatman is about rejection of the self not rejection of any meaningful changes to MNK.
But casting jokes aside (I'm not offended really):
I got MNK to 80 not long ago and I can totally under where these complaints come from. Anatman seems redundant because of Form Shift, Form Shift feels like it should be learned at a much lower level (as maintain GL is a much bigger PITA at lower level, Titan jumps in the air? By by Greased Lightning). The level 74 Fist of Fire trait seems mostly made redundant by Greased Lightning 4. The level 80 skill seems very situational and almost useless but otherwise a DPS loss, I dunno, maybe would work better as something you can weave?
But I hope 5.4 brings those meaningful changes in its rework. I know MNK has been one of those jobs with people complaining about issues for forever.

Considering MCH was dumed down and got praise and AST is still getting dumed down even after the mass amounts of critisims that the job identity is lost. It wouldnt be a shoker be careful what you wish for MNK mains enjoy your 1 roation and 4 ogcd
You mean the thing it already is? Besides, you don't need to worry, Monk mains are used to disappointment.
Dont be so cynical, itll always get easier. how about no positional GL is permanent and Perfect balance has you only use Bootshine and nothing else. So the most optimal way of using Riddle of fire is to spam Boothshine, no more debuff no, Twin snakes increased to 60 seconds so you dont have to worry about punishment. Bootshine--->Dragon kick is you new standard rotation so you dont have to worry about pressing to many buttons
