How many other cyclops bosses are in the game to worry about? Other than FATEs, the only other one I can remember offhand is in Anamnesis, and he has telegraphs.

Yeah, there's really not all that many. For all we know they thought it was inconsistent the low level one had nothing while the level 80 had telegraphs, maybe Coincounter's telegraph will be like that and show up too late to actually dodge but clearly show the areas he hits and this will all be moot.
A death only stops gameplay if it wipes the group, and a DPS dying to coincounter probably won't result in a wipe. If you nearly die you can take note and adjust when you see the attack again. If you actually die you just alt tab out and play around online until the rest of the group finishes the fight.
There's also minotaurs, which use the same non-telegraphed swing/swipe mechanics. It ends up being a pretty common thing that consistently pops up a few times every expansion, almost on par with the Chimera's ubiquitous Ram's Voice/Dragon's Voice gimmick.
As I said before, if we are to arrive at some kind of agreement, hopefully it can be meet at that at its worst, it won't help newer players. Chimera and Coincounter are two of the first bosses that do not use telegraphs for their attacks which hit really hard, and you have to pay attention to other things going on. Coincidentally enough, they are also the first two bosses new players struggle with. I am of the mind to introduce this to players sooner than later. You're right, you didn't say the game was going to the dogs, that was more in context of the rest of the thread. But I just don't see how this will actively hurt new players, it's not like everyone that made it through there was automatically more prepared or skilled.
It's a big nothing of a change with weird timing so I definitely agree this wasn't necessary, I just feel like nothing will really change for the worse for new players other than preparing them a bit better for a cyclops boss later?
Basically the same reason why these telegraphs should not be added is the same reason why most players feel Hall of Novice should be a requirement. This game not only needs to stop spending so much time reworking elements of ARR for the sake of homogenizing it with the other expansions; it also needs to stop coddling to the lowest common denominator. I should not have to go into how much Aurum Vale has been nerfed already since its 1.0 inception.
To be fair, the main nerf I can think of was kiiiiiiinda needed, especially as SMN became more locked with their pets. Having the pets be fully affected by the first and third boss mechanics but with no way to cleanse it was downright stupid, especially since SMN/SCH were already punished by lacking the burst DPS needed to take out the seedlings in a timely fashion in the last boss.
A change I just noticed in the patch notes, apparently durability and spiritbonding will only be adjusted after an instance/FATE is complete in order to reduce strain on the system, meaning we no longer have to worry about gear breaking mid-dungeon/raid/trial/etc anymore.
It can still break if you die enough times, so you should still repair especially when doing the harder contents. But if you don't die, then yeah, you don't have to worry about it.A change I just noticed in the patch notes, apparently durability and spiritbonding will only be adjusted after an instance/FATE is complete in order to reduce strain on the system, meaning we no longer have to worry about gear breaking mid-dungeon/raid/trial/etc anymore.
Re: Coincounter
It’s a weird spot in monsters. I like that certain mobs don’t telegraph their attacks, but there really just isn’t any rhyme or reason to it. Coin counter was a great example of a boss that defies expectations up to that point, and I liked having him there if only to show that some creatures ignore enmity and don’t telegraph.
Not that it needed to all be on him, but I liked gimmick bosses to kind of give a peek at what’s incoming later on.
..was personally a little disappointed my first run through the game because I expected the telegraphs to get shorter or be nonexistent by endgame. Still enjoyed it, but I would love more visual clues other than the orange death circles.
