Was teleporting in Star Trek a "bit of a stretch"?Personally I think Anima did ruin the game somewhat, but it's not disastrous, I bet there's a better alternative out there or maybe a small tweak would do it. I just gets to be a bit knowing every measly adventurer could zip through space anytime from anywhere, at the cost of some strain on the soul. I know...it's in the "lore" but it's also a bit of a stretch.
Also, as it is right now teleporting is not a spell nor an acquired skill..it's a press of a menu button, that also took away the RPG feel to it somewhat.
In all fairness though, teleport shouldn't be restricted to a specific class. That too would take the fun away from some people, and maybe give rise to paid-tele service. So I understand why there are opposing voices here.
I would like it if they made more references to Anima in the actual game, and prettied up the animation a bit as well. Instead of just an effect that happens on your character give it an animation."
Though the exact mechanism behind teleportation via aetheryte is still largely a mystery, one theory states that when a sentient being approaches one of the portals, the aether that makes up its body resonates with the aether of the crystals, which in turn results in a complete breakdown of the being's mass, allowing it to temporarily return to the invisible aetheric streams that course throughout the planet. The being's soul, which cannot be broken down, then guides the particles to a pre—determined destination, and upon arrival, the corresponding aetheryte receptacle reconfigures the mist back into its original form. This whole process takes only a matter of moments, allowing for nearly instant transportation to faraway destinations."
pity that isn't an animation: the mist coming out of the crystal coalescing. (bad for the GPU perhaps)
Well, the original point of anima was to compensate for the lack of chocobos and airships so it didn't take an eternity to get to each city (or Final Fantasy: Field and Track Edition). Now that we have these functions in the system and have a non-anima solution for efficient (but not instant) travel maybe the devs could come in and start playing around with it.
Give it some wrinkles now like certain aether-tinged weather patterns screw up the accuracy of the teleport and would toss you into one of the gates of the crystal you were teleporting (possibly waved if it's a home/favored point). Would be a bit of a nerf maybe to the system but it would make people give other travel options (current and implemented in the future) a second look over.
Also, maybe there are places you just can't teleport to. Like maybe those areas don't have a central crystal and linked gates connected to it set up. I mean, who says that everywhere in the world has the same mastery of Anima that the 3 city-states have or the infrastructure to support a camp's crystal/gates?
How about special areas that are coded to a specific GC (via a key item that allows transit)? 3 different GC camps in the same zone and such like that? Maybe you need to capture a Garlean (or future antagonistic force's) key item to reverse-engineer and open up sites you can teleport to (might be a temporary thing as it hasn't been perfected so you pay seals to have a new one made).
Just some thoughts on the fun stuff they can do with the anima teleports. We don't need to tear down the system but rather, why not run with it and have some fun diversifying it?
I wish anima didn't exist. I hope it goes away in 2.0. It just feels too... over-powered and makes the world boring.
I can be anywhere at any time. There is no adventure. I miss having to travel through areas and avoid tough monsters to get places, like in XI, and other games.. it was exciting.
While there may be some lore to anima, it still seems pretty broken to me. How can anything, like the Garleans, or beastmen be a threat when we can just teleport away at any time? "Oh no! They're attacking! Good thing everyone and their dog can just reappear somewhere else in an instant! YAY!"
Also... I agree with this that anima has made people spoiled.
I would love if teleporting was done through spells to certain areas only... Having the power to be anywhere instantly is just far too broken.I personally think anima has spoiled people, I think once the maps are redone if we could teleport to those floating crystals pretty much breaking from the ground that would be pretty cool... but not through anima.. spells would be nice.. I liked getting teles from people :3
I don't want them to remove teleporting from the game, but I don't like that it's a power that everyone has and anyone can be anywhere anytime. I would prefer teleporting form an NPC, crystal to crystal (the crystals have the power, not us), or spells (using magic just makes more sense to me.)

It really seems you don't want it gone, you just want it to be diffrent.something along the lines of this would fine fine in my eyes http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...mpany-teleport

That's why I don't really get using it as a class specific spell. That does nothing against the claim of it being OP'd. Not only that but it would waste an ability level for something that everyone used to have anyways. If CNJ got it, what would it be missing out on instead?
I just don't think it's worth it, and I think GC seals for it would be the worst idea as a substitution.
I still stand by my statement of involving it in the lore more. While it's technically there by indirect association via the flash site, I don' t think it's mentioned outside of the opening quest chain that gets you more accustomed to the area you are from, and even then it's through an NPC linkpearl.
Despite my dread for what might happen to anima, I like the potential for what the concept art shows in regards to the Aetheryte camp and it's potential demise. At least then it would be a key moment in Eorzean history.
