So what you're telling me is that in a perfectly optimized run, with members of your static with whom you play regularly and have full trust in are able to power your way through a dungeon that you are fifty item levels overgeared for with oGCDs.

Its almost like being grossly overgeared for content reduces the Healing requirements to a negligible level. Whodathunkit.

So you basically took my "optimized example" and ignore the "run of the mill" one right next to it. Both of which demonstrate that you still grossly overestimate the healing requirements for that type of content. Bottom line is that you don't need gcd healing in most content. that's all there is to it. And requiring more healing is not the solution since we already do have content that requires more healing and 97% of the player base can't do it.

Also, did people ignore my suggestion to look at FFlogs? You get an immense amount of data there. It's telling of this situation when even grey healer parsers that have gross overhealing have damaging spell casts in the hundreds, while their compounded healing casts barely reach fifty.

Well, even if we disagree as to how to fix the situation, this thread makes one thing clear: The current situation and iteration of healer design is terrible and must needs be adjusted.

Only started to heal, curious why you think the design is so terrible? As a WoW healer, seems fine as is.

There is a thread in the healer forum titled "A summary of healer issues." I think it describes pretty well what the main complaints are.

To be fair I didn't post a link to it, or encourage using any type of parser. But since its data that can inform people's view on the prevalence of healing downtime and the usage of DPS spells by healers, I think it's useful in this discussion, taboo or not.

In a nutshell, as soon as you start building skills as a healer the gameplay becomes a one button spam. The design was changed to have a really low skill floor which helps newer players get into healing but they've simultaneously lowered the skill ceiling so much that higher tiered players just find it boring (just so happens career healers tend to be higher tiered at healing, funny how that works)

On the other hand, Klaleara, lots of folks are very happy with the current iterations of healers. They are just in the game, not on the forums for the most part. I've been healing in XIV since 2010, and I still enjoy it. So don't be swayed by anything you read here (including my own words, of course). Play the role and decide for yourself
