At the moment there is no lvl 80 ornate crafting/gatherer gear. Soon as you hit 74 you can make a HQ pixie cotton apron which stat wise beats HQ ornate gear. On top of being easier to obtain then Ornate gear just better to go after the Pixie gear then waste time with wonderous tails or spend millions on the MB.

Out of curiosity, why do you feel that way?

Advanced melding is a bit of a pain that doesn't seem to serve any purpose other than to purge the server economy of excess materia. That could always be achieved by making it more difficult for players to obtain materia in the first place. Right now the amount of materia floating around is a bit of a joke thanks to the ease of scrip grinding, hunts throwing out planicrystals/planiclusters like crazy, etc. The change to conversion in 5.2 where the item is no longer destroyed will add even more materia to the system.
