All I'm really saying is there's no reason for an ability that is perfectly tuned as a tool for griefing to function as it does. Handing an online community the perfect tools to harass each other is basically just begging for anti-social behavior.

No it's not a perfect tool for harassing others. You have the tools to report it. Just like how you can report people for MPK easily just by the fact that the pulled a mob and got you killed by its AOE even if they said nothing. You can do the same if rescue was used that way.
