For the purposes of this discussion I would define "educated" as anyone who has gone through highschool (or the local equivalent) with passing grades.
Sure, there will be some people matching that description who still won't have encountered the terms, but in that case I blame their schools.

How can it be "going the same way as WoW" when the pattern has been the same since 2.0?

The "normal" game content has always been relatively easy so that all players get a chance to experience the story of it. Then they have Extremes, Savage, and Ultimate for people who like a challenge.

But that being said, even some of the normal content has consistent wiping due to people not understanding the mechanics or being undergeared. It isn't until a raid has been out for awhile and people get overgeared for it that the average run becomes "smooth".

The OP just seethes with hyperbole. Check that at the door next time you want to complain about something.

I don't have to admit that at all. There's any number of reasons someone might mess something up. I know I do, and better players than me (of which there are many) manage to do it as well. My point is, if you make the game harder you're going to have to put up with more failure, not less, as some seem to believe. If everyone clamouring for more difficulty is planning to become more patient then fine, have at it. I don't want to see anyone going on any more orange text tirades if this comes to pass or rage quitting after a wipe or two. People who want the game to be harder need to be willing to reap all that they sow, good and bad.
    I can't +1 this enough.

Also the only reason I know about port and starboard is because of video games. School never taught me that, possibly because schools aren't interested in teaching nautical terminology.

I have a bachelor's degree in English, working my way up to a master's, and I've never heard of the term larboard until this fight. I don't think it's necessarily a matter of if you're 'educated' or not. I like to think I'm a relatively decent player, and that fight is the one fight I'll die over and over again in, and I say that with no shame.

Larboard isn't "slightly archaic", it's very archaic. Even the dictionary lists it as an archaic, unused term.

That being said, the only reason I know what port and starboard mean is because I'm a sailing enthusiast and was in Boy Scouts. They are certainly not "perfectly normal" words every educated person should know.

Now that's not to say the game shouldn't have "interesting" language like port and starboard. But using ridiculously outdated vocabulary wasn't a good design decision.

Oddly enough, I do remember learning about this in school... in gym class. Back in my old elementary school, they had the four sides of the gym named for each of the four directions and we played games on occasion involving moving to those specific sides. It didn't work very well, though, as I definitely forgot all about them beyond "those are ship terms" after that and we never covered it again.

Hun, i don't think the issue isn't being educated or not. I think the issue is that, just like me you don't speak old "boat". That's a whole different lingo >.<

I like that term you just used. Old boat. I dunno why but that made me chuckle.

Get's even better when you're not a native English speaker and actually had to google the meaning of that word.
Really has nothing to do with being "Educated", it's simply a word used on a nich situation, and I don't get why SE used it as translation.
It's really hard to react on the spot to have to first deduct the meaning of the word to figure out if it's left/right/front/behind and then get it in my language.
It becomes easier the more you do the patterns etc, but seriously, "left" and "right" would have been hard enough.
