looking at the blu magic page, looks like ffxiv version aligns very closely with the vast majority of iterations of blue magic and blue mage in its implementation. The most common factor is learning skills from enemies, and conditional spells like white wind, mighty guard, doom, missle, bad breath, 1000 needles, self destruct etc.

kimahri has access to these type of spells, as well. only the non blue mages from non ff games seem to be that different

I'd say blue mage in XIV is more of an oddity since it has like double the spells of a normal blue mage discounting XI and has RNG attached to learning it's skills--something it only shares with XI BLU which was still able to do current content on it's release.

catomancer, vampire, khimari, gun mage, XI blue mage, Quistis, explorers BLU, were more physical based BLUs and had physical weapons though vampire could do pretty much anything.

Strago, Quina, V BLU were more of the magey mages, I mean I guess you could count enemy materia? but...Also yeah I feel like goblin punch has been in more games than level 5 death has tbh.

Also again as I've stated learning has only been fun when it was khimari, because you could offensively use lancet to tell if a skill was learn able. Everything about BLU mage could aesthetically be done through job quests since, let's be honest, most people used a guide when even going for blue magic to begin with. That includes XIV, I mean the book even just tells you where the blue magic is, iirc.
