Well, the only way to make SE aware we want them is to make noise about it. If we don't get them you're going to be hearing about them till we do. If people wouldn't shut up about the bunny outfit you can imagine the uproar genderlocked Viera will cause. If this thread is already irritating you, you've got a big storm coming in the future. :v The gays take male Viera very seriously. Yoshi is gonna have to deal with a bunch of angry homosexuals every fanfest until the end of time if he goofed this up.

I believe it, and I support you voicing your opinion. It's just the way people are doing it that I have to post responses to. For example, posting that Hrothgar (which we've ever seen before!) would just be a Roe with long hair? Ridiculous. And yet that got support somehow. And really it's not irritating. I just feel like it's a good use of my time to point out these things when I see them and sigh. If "the gays" continue to voice their opinions, I'm sure Yoshi will notice, we will see how long it takes to make any difference. I disagree with it being a goof-up though, because really it's just a matter of perspective.

Oh yeah, I feel that being super aggressive about it - either way, isn't the best way to go about it.

If we want something we have to be polite and talk about the pros and cons of it. And make it known that this is wanted of our devs.

If these do end up gender locked I will most certainly complain, but it a way that is thought out complaint rather than screeching.

Apologies for before! I have read your messages before and they were thought out and not so much 'that guy' - I just wish that we could veer away from posts that rile each other and are just a well thought out discussion. Of course, if people are going out of their way to be an ass then that's no fun - not that you were. So I'll take back the 'party pooper' - though anyone who does that in the future just to rile folks up is most certainly the pooper of the parties.

That's fair, I can understand that! I'm interested to see Hrothgar as well. I just don't want them to come at the expense of male Viera. The problem is that in a situation like this, people are bound to reactive negatively to Hrothgar regardless of how great there are just because we're basically being told "you're not getting what you want, you're getting this instead" and that is going to color perspectives no matter how SE spins it. Really, the whole thing is doing a disservice to both races. You're going to get people who hate Hrothgar out of the gate as a result, it's unavoidable.

Thing is the thread started out as a Is ffxiv going to gender lock a race? just after the keynote it grew due to SE/Yoshi's actions or lack of sparking more concerns than was intended no doubt, it focused on male Viera so much was due to Viera being the only focus of a confirmed race once we got the Hrothgar 'bug' we had a lot more different opinions on how SE are going to handle fan fest with what will be revealed. Now i can only speak for myself here but the reason i have been as vocal as i have is not due to anyone else within this thread but down to me personally i am very anti gender locking on something like races and jobs this thread has the most posts i have ever put into a thread before or probably after purely due to the fact we may see gender locking in the near future, the only person i outright had arguments with were because i couldn't understand how gender locking such big things had any positive side to it for a game like ffxiv post ARR. No reasonable thread should be looking to be an echo chamber and this thread definitely didn't start out that way still doesn't feel that way.

Ok...but then why suggest a petition then? That people posting in this thread are leaning towards supporting Viera males when this thread started with the ability/inability to play as Viera males makes sense. Would a request thread massively change it’s replies or status as an echo chamber? ^^;


I can't speak for others but there theres no real swaying me on this topic. A good portion (if not the bulk of) of my OF posts have been arguing about lock and favoritisms in relation to glamours, hairstyles, and the like. That I might be missing out on a playable race taht I've been looking forward to since I joined the game is worth bumping an "echo chamber" over.

You're conflating two points. The point of the petition would be a cohesive statement that's simple to understand and plain to see how many people are for your point. This thread being an echo chamber was because you said in paraphrase "lol well more people are responding positively than negatively" which... of course they are. People who either want something other than male Viera or are neutral probably aren't seeking out a thread to post complaints. People who are seeking such thread, are doing so to find a group of like minded people. That's the echo chamber. A petition can't be an echo chamber because in theory, if people didn't argue back and forth, it would just be a bunch of signed statements of desire. One post per person, no need to go any deeper than that to make your point.

And really, I'm not trying to sway you or anyone. I don't care if you're for or against genderlocking. My points have been, for the most part, responses to people either saying things that were in my mind illogical, or to people saying outlandish things, like being entitled to what they want. I've never said "you should stop wanting male Viera that's stupid". Or, "genderlocking is good for the community, you should change your mind!" I agree that if everyone got everything they wanted it would be amazing and we could all go home happy. I'm saying that based on what we know, it's looking like it's not going to happen, and since you will probably have to keep voicing your dissatisfaction, probably do it without using the word "entitled". I can see that. It's probably naive to think a thread could stay on point and civil. I guess there's no point in trying to call people out on being extreme because it's just a thing that happens in online forums. I just hope they have some way to measure how impactful decisions like this would really be, rather than just seeing a page number on a forum.
