I would think "the point" of the role is holding the enemies' attention and keeping them away from your allies, and therefore it's your responsibility to make sure you're sufficiently geared to not die while doing that.


On the issue of people not wanting to spend money on upgrading their gear (or 'lose' money by equipping otherwise-sellable gear) and then end up in low-level dungeons where it's wasted... since you can change gear after you get into the dungeon, you can carry the gear with you (and glamour it beforehand if you care about that) then only equip it if you actually end up in a high-level dungeon.


Also someone said a while back that the 'guaranteed dungeon drops' are useless because they only ever got earrings? I'm not 100% certain but I think it'll always give you a gear piece you don't have. So if you ran it repeatedly with the same class, you'd build up a full set.

(Not that I'm saying everyone needs to do that before moving on, of course.)
