Healer Horror Stories: Redux

Simple Expert Daily roulette yesterday and it was a nightmare because the healer was just... *(rubs temples)*

I absolutely cannot stand healers that do not properly know how to deliver on their job. It's a sacrilege and it remains one of my main peeves in-game.

In 1.0, healer was one of my main jobs and it was even my preferred choice when beating the most difficult battles like Nael's Rivenroad (normal). Back then, most healers played magnificently. By early 2.0 I still played healer and eventually reverted to DPS jobs but I began to be appalled at how some healers were playing.

Sad, but its still happening.

The other day while partying with my friends we had a healer who would do this while I was playing tank i.e. hardly healing me when I was oftentimes sitting at 25% health as dark knight. My guess is that he simply wanted a fast queue time to just play a dps, when whm really doesn't get much dps at Brayflox's Longstop levels.

I've gotten to the point where if I'm not playing healer, or if a friend isn't playing healer, I dare not touch roulette, even as a tank. Unless I feel like getting my kidneys stabbed repeatedly.

The thing about healing is unless you KNOW the class yeah you might be uncomfortable

But a good healer or a meh sch will hardly heal you

Idk if whm has regen at brayflox but if they fo then yeah duh they wont heal you themselves. Regen is freaking strong
And if you didn't die or hit the ult then they obviously didnt need to heal you

At high levels its even more this way with schs plentiful instant heals and roused eos
And Whms stroooong pair of instas
Really only ast demands personal attention since their instas are eh on a tank
And they still have decent regens or shields to keep you standin

Tldr
Part of tanking is getting used to it
Part of healing is learning it
And dps why would you care untill wipes lol

Honestly though i think playing tanks and healers will make you better at both overall just from knowing what the other side can do

Itll stop you from crapping your pants when you get those holy rave whms later on cus "oh of course holy away. You have benidiction" lol

If not, the healer was - by the opinion of much of the community - playing properly.

...But sentiments like this are probably why it feels like we healers get more comms keeping people topped off, even if keeping people topped isn't exactly optimal.

Yeah. Many people don't understand that there's a big difference between not being topped off and almost dying. Damage is often pretty predictable. If I'm not afraid to leave you at half health, you shouldn't be afraid to be at half health.

I'm not going to argue with anyone, but no one really has enough information to judge whether the healer was playing right or not.

The instructor during the healer training duty actually says that if your group is healthy enough feel free to weave in some offensive spells. So if someone in your group is being an asshat and telling you to only heal if you're throwing in some extra dps, just ignore them. Because the game itself recommends it.

Ah, then yeah. I'd lead with that instead of 'being left at low health'. One is optimization... the other is indeed a healing fail.
