I was going to keep out if this, but I’m going to add my 2 cents. This isn’t directed at anyone though I do expect a few select people to just start attacking anyway since I’m not agreeing with them.
As I stated earlier, I do have the earrings, and I use them constantly, they are always in my armory so I can instantly glamour new earrings to them. They are a part of my character. Enough of that, that’s not my point at all.
I have thought about this a lot lately, and I was the person who originally posted the data mined information a few months ago, but the post was quickly deleted. I can sum up my feelings in one word.
Disappointment.
I’m not really mad at newer people who would like to have those earrings. I don’t hate the developers or the game. I truly am simply disappointed in our community and in the developers of this game. To people who say to just leave, or shut up or step aside, I can only respond with “no”. I’m here and disappointed because I actually care about the game and I want to see it grow and I feel things like this potentially undercut that.
When 1.0 launches, anyone in the beta or following the beta knew that this game wasn’t ready for launch. We told them that it wasn’t ready but they launched it anyway, and to our horror it was as bad or worse than we feared. What did we do? Did we exclaim “What a piece of {redacted} game this is, I’m leaving and not coming back” like the majority? No. We stayed. I did not leave then, and I’m not leaving now.
What ever happened to “Do what you say and say what you do”?
They told us certain things could only be obtained in certain ways at certain times. Yes, things do change. When you have told someone that you will do something for them in exchange for them doing something for you, you should honor that. To break that too often, without any discussion or apparent reason undermines that trust.
My disappointment isn’t just over the earrings. It’s all the things that they told us “hurry up and do this before it’s gone”, only to backtrack on them over and over again. You’ve seen the list, at this point they have backed off just about all of it. I expect this behavior from places like EA and Activision. I truly expected better from SE and I absolutely expected better from Yoshida and his team.
Why was this necessary? Why not do something similar instead?
Everyone that talks about the TOS, you are correct, they are free to do as they wish with the game. Just as we are free to speak with our money. Yes, I am still subbed, but I do not spend anywhere near as much money as I used to. I used to have 3 accounts, I only have 1 right now.
I will end with this.
Legacy isn’t all about the reduced sub, or the “tattoo”, it’s not a tattoo per se, or the chocobo, or the goobbue, or the earring or the horn, or any of those items. It’s about putting your faith in a company and a team and having that faith rewarded. That is what legacy is really all about. Every time they undo part of the tangible items, such as the earrings or other things, they are undoing that faith. They are saying “You were wrong to put faith in us, we aren’t any better.”
