As I said, I care about precedent, and all this does is suggest that they might be able to bring back older items that people like/miss/want back. Which, considering the fact that I've seen requests for old pieces of gear to be brought into the game, I see as being a good thing.

I wanted to link around some stuff that's been getting said on the JP thread side of things.

Similar to you, I believe its the precedent and principle which is the issue.

FFXIV 1.0 Patch notes 1.23a

Patch notes list the instance battle under "Event" category. The fight itself was only unlockable after completed Calamity Event sidequests. While slightly unrelated these sidequests, once completed, also gave the rare "Dalamud Horn" by obtaining the achievement "Once in a Lifetime"- if the achievement name itself doesn't set the tone to players at the time, I'm not sure what else would.
For those unaware- this item is still currently locked but I've seen same debates as the Ravens on this topic.

Moving forward in 1.23a patch notes new items were also listed. Over-aspected Crystal, Lunar Curtains, Dalamud Horn, White Ravens, Manderville Earrings, Diety Rings, etc.

Looking over at the JP blog side of things, it lists out items that will not be "newborn", or not re-obtainable, in ARR. While it doesn't specifically list out White Ravens, it does mention "Items acquired in the event related to the seventh spiritual disaster" then listing examples such as Over-aspected Crystals that were listed right alongside White Ravens. The fact we had these quests presented to us back then as Seventh Era Events then also had listed we would not be seeing a recreation of said Seventh Era items I believe makes it pretty clear original intention was for these items to be exclusive to the time.


Needless to say, we've already seen some backpedaling and contradictions, for example Manderville Earrings being released and the diety rings. So the point itself is pretty mute other than the fact that the tone the developers were setting at the time was indeed implementing that these would stay exclusive to the events which happened surrounding the Calamity.

Slippery slope indeed. You can't please everyone, but I still believe implementing the White Raven's item exactly how it was in 1.0 is the wrong way to go about it for an item that was at the time of BCoBU/UwU difficulty to obtain and still suggest adding "Replica" to it's name.
