Seeing someone with those earrings always invoked some respect for them as a skilled player.
It's something you earn with your skill. Much akin to Ultimate weapons.
Now if they handed out Ultimate weapons to everyone...

But you can't compare the two seeing as one doesn't exist anymore and the other is clearly still alive and kicking. By that fact alone they are not in the same ballpark, not even on the same planet. 1.0 is dead and gone for at least 5 years, those earrings hold no value whatso ever. You can't compare them to UwU weapons as those are still alive. Now you'll have a point if 5 years from NOW uwu was dead and you could no longer do it.. THEN you can compare them. But as it stands now, comparing them now is just trying to scare people for no reason.

I have to agree. It's like stolen valor. How can you prove you cleared it and didn't just get them from this year's anniversary event?
Most of the item sets from 1.0 were re-released in 2.0 even if their content was deleted. The Militia set from Hamlet Defense was turned into a craftable set. Hamlet Defense doesn't exist anymore. The relic models were repurposed and their quest chain was overhauled. The garuda and ifrit fights from 1.x are pretty similar to the ones we got in 2.0 even down to some of the mechanics. I mean T9 even looks somewhat similar to rivenroad, they're not the same fight but.. yeah.
It's odd that they withheld these two earrings as rewards when they released all the other gear sets fine if they weren't meant to be "exclusive". The White Ravens and Manderville items have been in the game since 2.0 so it's not like they just decided to port them recently, they were already in the game since 2.0.
Hey who knows, maybe they meant timed exclusive which seems to be their definition of exclusive recently although all the hype building and advertising they did during 1.2x made it seem like it was a one time thing.

Lace requested I relay her thoughts on the matter for her:
If I can try to put this in perspective a bit:
I graduated Air Force Basic Training almost 10 years ago now. And a week late at that, literally because someone took too long to sign something. Fact is, I graduated, and I got my Airman's Coin. It represents a small portion of the hardships I faced to get there, and it means a lot to me for that. I'm not the only one who has one. Thousands of people do. Some went through more than I did, some less. Some couldn't care less about the stupid coin; plenty of people even lost theirs and don't even miss it. But I DO care about mine because it's a reward for my efforts - even when those efforts were setback by factors entirely out of my control.
My time serving has come and gone, and again, I'm hardly the only one with an Airman's Coin. Thousands have one, thousands more can get one. . . IF they join the Air Force and complete Basic Training. So long as they do that, I don't care if they get one. But if say, the Air Force began literally giving them out to just anyone, regardless of if they complete Basic or not, yes, THEN I have a huge problem. I still have my coin, of course, but the issue is now "everyone gets one" but doesn't have to take on the challenges that I did for it. And that's not okay.
Now here's the part where you say "Oh but that's real life! This is just a video game! Who cares?" Well. . . do you care at all about anything you've made efforts to get in game? Is there anything you've actually worked hard for? More importantly, even if it in no way takes away from your accomplishments in game, would you be okay with someone else just simply showing up and getting the same thing you worked for without equivalent effort?
THIS is what people have issue with. They worked for it. Now it's just being handed out. This isn't entitlement, and it's not wanting to feel special or different. It's handing out a reward for effort without the effort or any equivalent. Show up, get a "coin". Now you're special like everyone else.
P.S. I've been subbed longer than anyone was for 1.x, and I've cleared harder things than Rivenroad (Hard). I don't want the earrings, because I never cleared Rivenroad, but when do I get to start paying less for a sub?
Of all the XIV 1.0 items, could they not have gone with something that didn't already carry over into ARR?

Silly people don't understand that SE is making and running this game. If they decide to put this in as some reward for event they can do it. What you say or think ether for or against it doesn't matter its already set to be a reward for the rising. The End.
Of course they can do whatever they please, has someone claimed otherwise?
At this point, SE has gone back on many things already, it's just one more thing to add to the list. It's disappointing, but not surprising.
