Others have asked for the story alone to be told on a DVD or in a book, but as I've already mentioned, the plot was plagued with issues, and as I took the liberty of ignoring certain points of lore, it suffers from numerous inconsistencies.

You could just not include the things that are no longer canon. The story may have had flaws, but it was interesting in various regards. People wouldn't ask if they weren't interested and an official dvd/book is definitely a decent compromise. It won't be the same, but some people like to read lore and want something official, instead of fan made. Especially when fan-made content may not know what's still considered canon and what's not and end up having to make guesses.

When I was first starting out, I know I was annoyed that these various characters I'm supposed to care about, like Louisoix, I didn't actually know much about and I kept hoping the game would try a little harder to explain to me why I should care about him and his legacy and sacrifice at all, and what exactly Dalamud was and this great calamity and what drove it to happen in the first place. While the story is understandable without this knowledge, it definitely felt like something was missing - which considering the ARR story is already lingering at some points, having this extra feeling of "what am I missing because I was unlucky to not have a good enough computer to play 1.X way back when" certainly didn't help at all... No other main FF game has its story inaccessible like that.

I ended up having to scour the internet for various sources and honestly, the 1.X storyline is plenty interesting. Not perfect, but it has its appeal. Just because you don't think it does, doesn't mean we shouldn't get to have somewhat of an official experience and end up hoping that none of these fan sources are ever taken down...

The Rising event is nice , but it is about the last days. What you don't get is that people who are asking about official sources and legacy servers (regardless of whether old legacy data is preserved. Most of the people asking for it would be making new characters anyway so old data wouldn't matter, especially people who are asking for temporary servers like Diablo's seasons.) aren't just asking about the very end of it - We want to experience the official (still canon) story in its entirety, flaws and all. We want to experience the original class quests and GC quests storyline. So stop fixating on this idea that it's all about the very end of the calamity itself that we want to recreate, because it's not and we're aware that it'll never be fully recreated. We want to understand what led up to it too....

Although some players were of the opinion that the reward was not an issue, many others voiced their disappointment. And the fact that these players came forth is evidence that we failed to give the matter due consideration.

Our legacy players have memories that are tied to that earlier time─I was reminded that the excitement and pride they experienced in acquiring the White Ravens is bound up in the item itself, regardless of its stats or appearance. I, myself, am the sort of person who separates the experience from the physical reward, but that doesn't excuse the failure to consider those who feel otherwise. I intend to learn from this lesson moving forward, and continue to develop FFXIV as a game that everyone can enjoy.

But we did, however, decide that the fifth anniversary of the rebirth was the perfect timing to provide at least a glimpse into how the game was back then.

1.0 is my life. It’s aesthetic design took me to a place I’ve never been before and can never ever return to. Being in the rising event back in Ul’dah froze my heart with so much pain and heartache, yet I’m so grateful I can still walk through the city and interact with the original npcs. Thank you for maintaining as much as you could from 1.0- 1.23 days. The music, the animations, the emotes, the voices, everything was so beautiful and had such a vividness to it. Even a pebble on a dirt path was mesmerizing. I love what that game was artistically and have never since experienced what emotions it evoked in me. I watch the cutscenes And look through my screen caps when I have the insane courage to do so and then have to stop- it hurts so much. That world as it existed then was where my soul belonged and longs to return. I beg you please, if there is anyway way you can revive even a single server I would, and I imagine thousands of others, would be overjoyed. For me it wasn’t the gameplay or the other players it was the artistic expression. My character became this living breathing person. Her voice option not something I can select anymore. I feel like when she came out of the time field she lost a part of herself in the journey. I’ve been playing 2.0+ this whole time trying to recover it but just can’t. She was my sister. She was the love of my life. Coerthas’ Landscape and the mysterious and haunting beauty of Ishgard castle and the strange, eerie gold-orange lights within it. The way the Fire Drakes’ sides would alight into flame during battle. But especially the radiant, glow of the world- the way the colors lifted out of every surface as if it was the very aether of existence glimmering about through the life and land. It is beyond me to describe or forget. I’m glad the world still remains but I just can’t let go of 1.0’s aesthetic design. Stole my heart forever. Unless someday it’s radiant, blooming colors and saturation can return. I’m not good with loss. I love 2.0+ for it’s own sake but sometimes loath it what it reminds me of. Taunting me with similarities. Ul’dah’s original theme track, all of the nation’s themes. Everything. I just can’t let go. But at least I can still sort of visit. So thank you so much retaining as much as you could. I’m sure you did your best and I’m so thankful. I guess I just selfishly wanted to post that all here. My heart will never love another.
