We all look similar because we are different races, not species. Even if Roes, Au Ras, Elezen, and Miqo'te existed here on Earth, they would all still be classified as mammals.

You're asking for a different playable species, which I doubt will ever happen.

I wouldn't say "never" but it would definitely require an unprecedented amount of work, meaning they'd have to allocate more budget to it than they did for the Au Ra, and would permanently increase the workload (and thus cost) of developing all outfits from that point on. In order for a dramatically non-human species to be added as a playable option, SE would have to sacrifice something else to pay for all that.

More miraculous things have happened (I mean... Realm Reborn?) but it's hard to imagine SE spending so many resources on something that I feel a large portion of the playerbase wouldn't find terribly appealing. Beast-like races tend to have niche following at best. Even in games like ESO where Argonians and Khajiit are considered absolutely core and TES fans would have lost their minds if they hadn't been included.

Make an Au Ra alt and watch your horns clip through every single headpiece then look at Fran's headpiece. Her ears don't look too far off from clipping through her hat lol

Have anyone ever thought that from a lore respective it just flat out doesn't work? Unlike in other setting where beast-like race already considered to be an established race, the ones in FF14 are at best minor faction, and at worst shunned by every nations. When the Aura was introduced in HW, it was integrated in a way that pretend their population has always been 'there', and they are already established as part of the society. The only one beast-like race that is exception to this is the Wolf-like race in Doma. And even making them playable is a long stretch.

From a narrative perspective, one limited area of what the player character can be is because "we are special". Warrior of light, defender of Eorzea and all that craps, that's why our character can never be anything other than from an established race. In other MMO, the character is not special, for example in WoW, the player is an exceptional soldier, but also one among many equal, that's why we can be whatever we want that's on the side of our alliance. Most people asking for beast-like race are players who had long finished the story and just looking for something fresh to look at, but imagine a lvl 1 character going through the entire MSQ as a beast-race, that'll just break so many aspect lore wise.

That's why if and when they introduce Vera, it'll be most likely like how they did Aura. We'll just have to conveniently accept the fact that the race is already part of the NORMAL Eorzea society for the story to keep its consistency.

Au Ra are dragon-kin so they're reptiles not mammals, they're already a different species.

They could add Moogles as a playable race. They're already established in Eorzean society and we already know they're capable of combat because of Good King Moogle Mog. They could even build them off the Lalafell frame.

Argonians an Khajiit are more in line with what I had in mind. Something that looked more animalistic and less "human with spikey-bits".

Erm... mammals are an order, not a species.

In any case, they're different species. The equivalent to real world races would be the divisions within a race, such as midlander or highlander hyur. It's not uncommon for fantasy to use "race" to mean species. Fantasy also just generally doesn't care much for real world biology.

I actually already have an Au Ra alt, but I intentionally chose the low-down horns to avoid as much clipping as I could.

I continue to hope for Ivalician Moogles, though given that Montblanc has appeared as a common-as-mud Moogle, it's unlikely to happen.

I would love to revive my Moogle gunner Dean in this game.
