I can't imagine SE wanting to add a non-humanoid race to the game. Mostly just due to the effort that would be involved for fitting all existing and future gear to the race. I mean, c'mon. They can't even be bothered to deal with tails as it is. They just clip through everything, pants, skirts, capes, etc - no special accommodation for tails as they used to do back in the day.
They're going to have to with Viera for the most part anyways because of their ears and their feet are longer with claws.I can't imagine SE wanting to add a non-humanoid race to the game. More than likely, if Viera became a thing in XIV, they'd take the Highlander or Elezen model (at least for females - probably do Midlander model for males if people would like the females taller), and slap on bunny ears and a cotton ball tail. They already said they would not do Viera-requests feet or hands because they don't want to go back and modify all existing gloves and shoes.
I personally would like more character customization for our existing races. Since 4.0 brought no new race and no updates. It made me sad.![]()

The ears would still clip through any hats, cowls and helmets. Unless they made it where they could only equip head gear like glasses, circlets and masks.More than likely, if Viera became a thing in XIV, they'd take the Highlander or Elezen model (at least for females - probably do Midlander model for males if people would like the females taller), and slap on bunny ears and a cotton ball tail. There are quite a few head pieces have molded ears for miqo (and I think Lala?), but not all. With Viera and the full-helments, they could always make the ears just go flat underneath the hat vs. molding insanely long ears onto the head pieces.

This actually might be a reason why Viera might not be made a playable race since they would need to modify old gear for ears, feet, tail, etc. and apparently they don't want to modify old gear again.
Make an Au Ra alt and watch your horns clip through every single headpiece then look at Fran's headpiece. Her ears don't look too far off from clipping through her hat lol
Not necessarily, since Miqo’te ears either have holes cut into the hat for the (a lot of 1.0/ARR gear had this), or they have what I call “ear spikes”, where the hat covers where the ears would be. They could also make them disappear, as Miqo’te ears do under things like the berets. Au Ra horns are usually the ones that clip through the cowls and hats. But still—they’d have to remodel every pair of shoes and every pair of gloves in the game for a more bestial race, and they already expressed not wanting to do that.
Aside from the fact that JP players have also expressed a lack of desire when it comes to having a more bestial race.

This is more or less what I was thinking. Armor almost always has been mentioned by other games discussing why they don't have distinctively non-humanoid options. You'd have a hard time customizing armor to fit a moogle, as an example. Even the Pomguard only gets a helm and weapon.I can't imagine SE wanting to add a non-humanoid race to the game. The other concerns is generally whether enough players would choose to play a non-humanoid race over a humanoid race if offered. If only a tiny fraction would end up playing such a race, it's not going to be considered worth developer time.
