I'm going to expand on that a bit. To certain demographics, calling law enforcement is a hazard in and of itself. People of color; immigrants; queer and transsexual people; and heaven forbid if you're a cross between any of those groups. How often do we hear stories of people of color in the US who called the police, only to be thought to be the culprits of the crime they were reporting? If not shot outright?
Telling people to call the authorities comes from a position of privilege many victims of abuse do not benefit from.

This is also something you need to worry about.

Abuse victim calls the police...too bad, the victim is a minority, the police responds by arresting her instead on the spot...or even outright putting a bullet in her head.

You try to escape the abuser, and then the police gets you instead because they are racist, homophobic, corrupt, or any combination of all three.

For minorities there truly is no way out.

No...you are horrible for discouraging victims to come forward. Scaring them to hide.
Its one thing for myself to warn to not falsely accuse as that is a thing. It's an entirely different matter to tell them they will get hurt or worse.... for reporting sexual abuse if they choose to contact law enforcement or any authority for that matter.

If you have no issues with this...then I'd say your actually a part of the problem...the worst kind.

Nothing will get done if you don't speak up in the first place. Telling them to not bother at all or else...is no different then threatening.

I have an issue with police not doing their job and instead arbitrarily deciding that anyone who comes forward who is not a straight white upper-class citizen must be the real culprit and proceed to jump on the victim.

I have an issue with society defending cops who do this simply because they don't like people who are different.

I have an issue with people claiming that The Law is infallible while stuff like this happens right in front of their face.

I have an issue with victims of abuse being presented with only bad options, where they are screwed no matter what they do, say nothing and get screwed, do say something and get screwed anyway.

Do nothing? The abuser gets you.
Contact the police? They assume you are the problem and get you.
Try to deal with it yourself? The police get you for vigilantism.

All bad options, because society is rotten like that.

This thread was supposedly made with the intent of making victims aware of their rights and what they can do about it.
And while I do not appreciate this thread in the slightest...the merit of said thread is valid.

Take your attitude somewhere else. It has no place here and serves no constructive purpose other than scaring people.

He isn't saying people will be harmed for reporting offenses and therefore discouraging victims reporting, he's stating something that is a fact of life for many minorities: They already fear contacting law enforcement. I don't know if maybe you just don't live in the US, but it's a very real thing here. The problem is a lot of people here are saying "contact the police!!!" without taking into account the complexities of it because they, presumably, don't experience that fear.

I disagree....people are riled up as it is...and this thread is being read by victims or at least people who know them.
Giving "supposed/alleged" testimonies of cops shooting victims is not what I call a good discussion point...example or not.
It belongs somewhere else.

The point is to help people speak up...not scare them to oblivion.
