That's fine, it's just when people only take that view towards instances of abuse and harassment and never think that way when it comes to other crimes that it becomes a problem.

Other crimes usually have clear evidence as to someone's guilt, harassment not so much. Anyone on this thread can say someone on here is harassing them simply because that person is repeatedly objecting to what they post. Does that mean the objecting person is actually guilty of harassment? It could seem that way because it could be taken as that person is going out of their way target the other individual. Should they be criticised and ostricised for that?

There are very clear legal definitions of what constitutes harassment and assault. Whether or not a crime was committed doesn't hinge on whether the victim could have acted differently.

But in this instance we weren't talking about the legal definition of harassment or assault or the victim's actions, we're talking about evidence of guilt in the eyes of the public.

My opinion is that the public should use those legal definitions to inform their personal decision on whether or not somebody is guilty.

Either way, I've said about all I can or want to on this topic.

I would encourage people to just be very careful. This is a game and the people you converse with only have the information you give them. If someone is trying to get you to do something just tell them no, there is nothing they can do that will impact your real world life unless you have given them that power. If they insist on voice chat, you can refuse. They want you to sends whatever kind of photos, you can refuse. It might seem terrible losing your FC or your discord community but the alternative is giving someone control of you. A few of the people from the article I read from early in the thread were uncomfortable very early and could have just said no and let him rant and rave in the online world before it bled into their real world.

Those aren't reputable statistics, they're biased media outlets. I mean come on, Vox? You may as well be citing Buzzfeed.

One particularly troubling thing I would address directly- personal feelings of guilt in people who deal with sexual assault. You seem to live in some kind of fantasyworld where for one person to be guilty of a crime they need to bear 100% of the burden. This is not true.

If person A sends nude pictures to person B and person B puts those photos online person B is responsible for the act of putting those photos online and person A is responsible for sending them out in the first place. They are both autonomous adults. They both made poor choices. Just because person B did a much worse thing doesn't excuse person A from taking and distrubuting nude photos of themselves. They aren't without responsibility. There was no gun to their head making them do that.

You are responsible for the consequences of your actions. One day when you grow up you'll understand that.

I'm done with talking to you about this - I see now why you've come to the conclusions you have based on what passes for reputable statistics in your eyes.

The difference between legal definition and public opinion is like comparing a dictionary to a bag of feral cats. Clear cut information versus unpredictable and violent animals. Doesn't work that way and the mass of individuals that opt individually choose to ignore this clear cut truth is half the reason we have situations like this.

If something boils down to "he said, she said" then quite frankly, "pics or GTFO". That or a police report. To be frank, if one wants to use lynch mobs to publicly destroy someone with zero interaction from legal authorities, then I see no reason to have sympathy for those people. In some cases, I would go so far as to not refer to them as victims at all. In fact, I have nothing but contempt for those who permit the worst society has to offer to share the same air as the rest of us in civilized society. Regardless, I find it genuinely hilarious how all the #metoo sexual predators as of late in the news, seem to be all on the Left. And don't get me started on those who prostituted their way into Hollywood and are simply looking an extra 15 minutes of fame, putting into question those who would be actual victims. Not that Hollywood is corrupt or anything.
