We simply dont know how much evidence they have because they surely would not talk about every single one of them. Some might be a bit too private for the whole internet to know.

My point is, there exists tools in almost every medium of social media and game to ignore someone. People should be held accountable for themselves. Both "abusers" and "victims" on the internet.
And what if that person you blacklisted goes around and see whom you hang out with, or in which FC you are and try to turn people against you? What can one do if its opinion against opinion and you cant prove stuff because nothing ever happened but the other person tells lies about them? I mean this even happened in that case..that the person who abused was such a nice guy on the outside that people did not believe the other person and went against them...and heck you yourself dont even need to tell that person about personal information..what if you have a naive rl friend that is also friends with them and they tell them your name? Suddenly its getting real.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Pretty useless comment when you made the OP asking people for their opinions. People have different views. You of all people should realize this when you made the thread.

It's just online. It's honestly a non-issue. If you gave nudes to someone online and were then blackmailed I mean... it sucks but ultimately it is your fault. You can't really be sexually harassed in a game, especially when you as a player have the tools to stop it, as well as a pretty supportive GM staff willing to assist.

So we can't expect blackmailing to be morally wrong when it's done online? It's the victims fault?

It's wrong, I never said it wasn't, but this is also just online. There are plenty of tools to deal with it. Letting it go on for months, even years, is completely their fault. This is ultimately just a game and this is the internet.

I honestly don't understand this part. Won't ethics or laws apply on internet in your opinion? Why?

Edit: Also the threshold to report is quite high on abuse cases. I'm not sure what the time has to do with anything?

Rubiss, for once i 100% agree with you. Thanks for your input. To all of you posting about RL harassment, take note of what Rubiss said: This is way different. RL is much more serious, this is online....blist...logout....turn power of etc..

Exactly.Yes it's still an issue, but way less serious, and very easy to deal with.

I'm not sure if you were referring to the Moogle Post issue because that definitely was not just online. Anyway, it doesn't matter, online interactions are still subject to laws, it's not a special exempt zone where people can do what they like and face no consequences.

So, if you trust someone and they abuse your trust, that's your fault? And even if they go as far as blackmail, that's still completely on you? I disagree.
I'm not suggesting people shouldn't take steps to protect themselves, but a person who breaks someone's trust like that is still the one at fault, regardless.
Also see above: laws still apply.

Ha! So the creepy Guild leader who basically got me to the point where I chose to abandon another game and three characters I'd put a lot of time into, rather than deal with any more unwanted advances, suggestive gifts, creepy comments etc, wasn't really harassing me? It certainly felt real.

I'm not talking about a throwaway line about my character's looks or a single invite to ERP, this was weeks of following my character around and constant pestering via chat and in-game mail. I honestly don't think anyone who dismisses this sort of behaviour as trivial can have experienced it.
