Lancer = no pet.
Dragoon = pet.
Hows that? We good now?

Did Cid have a wyvern in 7? no to wyvern. . . oh wait wyvern ok just make it 2 hr ability to pop it.
I am seriously going to beat you until battle tanks pull us apart.
By the way, the issues here are:
a) Yoshida explicitly asked for player feedback about the idea of the Job Dragoon which they're adding immediately as Lancer's first specialisation job, having wyverns.
b) Many people don't think that's a good idea. I don't think many of us are saying "Wyverns have no place in this game, ever" - the sig is mostly a joke. It's just that we don't want to see Lancer's -first- specialisation being a pet job, especially when they have plans for classes revolving around pets already.
c) It's okay to argue for or against ideas if you feel strongly about them! Furthermore, and factoring in there being a time and a place for snark as long as everyone is classy about it, and puts forth good arguments, arguing against the proposition "The Dragoon Job in FFXIV should have a wyvern" does not make you a hater or a troll or whatever else, it makes you someone who does not agree with that proposition, and ideally you then put forth your reasoning as to why you don't agree, and in theory the development team receives this as feedback.
d) HARMONY IN THE UNIVERSE!

No pet needed to be AWESOME.

From there the dragoon stuff:
F: Q: this one is from forum NA side really wants to know this but will there be Wyvern for Dragoon?
Y: For this one when I went to overseas last week and answered this but I returned this as a question since you're having a pet you want it to fight right? If you think about that for a battle class we have to balance out as both character+pet so if you look at the character (dragoon) alone from other jobs/class it will look week. For a pet class to have a pet is a must so don’t know if that's what you want; it’s better to have a pet class and have the pet function there however for Dragoon I know what you guys mean as an image, so for example, it’s hard to do with current engine so it will be for the new engine but say like when you jump dragon is summoned and dragon uses a breath, so we’re looking into stuff like that of course. But if asking is there a wyvern buddy in reality there isn’t any right now since we have to balance out right now but we are looking into ways to link with dragons so please look forward to it in the future.
----------------
Aside from this my own thoughts on it and I agree with YoshiP's idea + he kind of gave us a hint...
Instead of saying Chocobo fighting together with you, they said BUDDY so it's possible in the future to be able to have other buddies no? In this "other" buddies it's possible to think of having a "Wyvern" buddy no?
At least that's how I see it if they will add wyvern to this game and make Dragoon strong like Kaine from FFIV.

Dragoon is a 17th century Mounted Cav.
If anything, maybe Dragoons could have a special dragon mount but there is no reason for them to have a dragon pet.

I do no tknow why people considered Dragoon as a weak DD. It was not. With the right gears, Jumps provided extra TP boost, which allowed Dragoons to spam WS a lot. There were so very many times where I've outparsed SAMs, WARs, and DRKs on my DD in so many endgame events. All it took is the right gear and right skills
ToAU changes made Dragoons even more powerful than ever. The access to Askar Body, most notably (Double attack and Store TP), as well as Ares Body, with refresh, which made dragoon/mage even more powerful (with refresh they can heal almost indefinitely). Finally /blu made it a very powerful DD and ability to heal others through the wyvern.
Personally, I'm okay with either. Dragoons should never be considered as a 'pet job', it is still a DD with a companion (the wyvern), that provides little DD power, and yet powers up Dragoon's abilities thanks to recent changes. Most notable example: Having Wyvern out will greatly power Spirit Jump and soul Jump. With Wyvern out, you get the following bonuses: you could get almost 100% TP from both Spirit Jump and Soul Jump as they provide huge bonus. (Spirit Jump would receive 2 times the tp of normal jump while Soul Jump would receive 3 times the bonus.) Plus, Spirit/Soul jumps would be 100% critical hit
.
Bottomline is: Dragoon was never a gimpy DD despite the fact that they have a wyvern. They were still an extremely strong DD, despite the fact that most of the FFXI players were too busy going "loldrg" to care.
Also, FYI, Dragoon in FFXI were almost exactly the same as typical Final Fantasy Dragoons. Wyverns only made it slightly different.

Making Dragoon a pet class would not delay patch 1.21 because pet classes and the pets for them won't be ready til closer to the 2.0 release and would come in the form of a quest like all other abilities for jobs. That is where the balancing would come in. Also Dragoon can still be a beastly crit class with a pet it will just have some adjustments done to the abilities and it may or may not get nerfed. Depends on the community's feelings on the matter AFTER it has been done just like 80% of the adjustments underway.Too late to change direction. There was no information indicating Dragoon would have a Wyvern or a pet of any sort, and going by that, if they decide on the spur of the moment to change Dragoon from a crit-based class to a pet class, that would effectively delay patch 1.21 for four months. And that's a very conservative estimate.
I'm sure you don't want the entire playerbase mad at you.
