I think that would give DRG way too big of an advantage over other players if not regulated to an EXTREME degree. Basically, a DRG would never not be a duo. Lowman? Bring DRG. Soloing? Go DRG. Have a gimp party member? Kick him and use DRG. I don't imagine that 4 chocobos would be more powerful than 4 party members, but if you're going for a zerg kill, four DRG makes a full party of ass-kickery.

They'd be nerfed in weeks.

once companion chocobos are released, no one would never not be duoing. Dragoon will just have an optional wyvern companion that the player would have to use INSTEAD of the chocobo.

so i think its fine, just think of it as a wyvern skin for your companion chocobo lol

If that were the case, I think it would be fine -- the trouble comes in where I try to imagine a dragon having similar fighting strength to something the lore has already established that dragons eat. Either our pet dragon would be a pansy (especially if we used children dragons like in XI, which I just think is cruel in so many ways) or Ishgardian chocobos are basically just raised on Rare Candy.

It can be an adult small wyvern. lol so it can make sense to match the strength of the chocobo

That's good because that was it originally were, just mounts. FFXI RUINED THE DRAGOON CLASS SO PLEASE WE SHOULD LET GO OF THE PAST.
