You could have level 50 gear look exactly like level 1 gear. I mean, it's just the stats that matter, right? You could have all the characters look identical as well. It's just the stats that matter, right? You could have the mobs look like giant cubes no matter what they're really supposed to be. It's just the stats that matter, right?

Or maybe... looking cool actually has some value in itself?

If you create wyvern specific moves from the dragoon, then you're essentially taking away from the dragoon's moveset itself. (If you're going to tie it directly to the Dragoon's motions, a Dragoon might as well just be doing it itself, it ceases to have any context of a pet class and you're just making more work for the animation department.)

I don't know, some of these half-baked ideas are really coming from left field here. You've gone from "Oh We're going to take 10% of a Dragoon's damage and tack it on a pet" to "We want a graphical extension of Dragoon."

It's horribly demeaning to the concept of both Dragoon and Wyvern.
Did you ever even stop to consider the casual player base? Not that I fall under that category, and personally, I have no intention of playing dragoon as a main; however, we both need to consider where people are coming from and why something as "important" as DPS just doesn't measure up to the prospect of "enhancing gameplay" from an aesthetic perspective. Seeing a little flying wyvern follow you around may make all the difference in the world to someone who enjoyed DRG in XI.

Why do you want to completely ostracize an entire group of people, simply because YOU don't like something, or b/c you believe that it MAY undermine the overall "effectiveness" of the class/job. Instead of whining about how big of a "failure" it would be, why don't you try to figure out ways to satisfy both parties....just as plenty of other ppl in here have done. While the names mean, essentially, the same thing: maybe a Dragon Knight could be a Lancer Pet class, and Dragoon could be the traditional FF-styled job.

Dragon Knight: "A Dragon's Knight" (fought, but never killed, and eventually "tamed" or befriended numerous dragons, and as a result they were given a young wyvern partner from which they draw and share power)

Dragoon: "A Master Dragon Killer" (killed numerous dragons and learned "special skills" as a result)

As a LNC i personally don't want the pet. As many have mentioned I would prefer the player stay powerful instead of having to be gimped just to have a pet that it itself will most likley not be all that useful.

Many seem to want the Wyvern pet simply because it would be "cool" or because FFXI had it and both of those are poor reasons when you consider the same people who are wanting the Wyvern pet would be the same people to complain when the player was weakened to balance out having a pet.

Also another thing is that I don't want FFXIV becoming more like XI then it already has. I love the idea of the job names coming back(as those names have always been part of Final Fantasy and not just XI) but I don't want the jobs themselves being copy and paste from XI. In the past Lancer/Dragoon was a job that had alot of different jumps and I would like to see that explored much more then just throwing a pet at the job. I want the jobs to be more interesting and diverse then they were in XIV.

I just want to clarify...I, like many others, do not REALLY want to compromise on the dragoon having no pet thing. I prefer the terminology "Dragoon" to "Dragon Knight," and I'm sure that plenty of other people do as well. So, personally, I'd prefer that SE sticks to a single lancer "job:" Dragoon, and that it DOES have a pet. I did want to throw the Dragon Knight/Dragoon compromise out there, like Engineer proposed, but only to show that there ARE other options. If you people really want a stupid spear class that does insane DPS, then maybe it's *you all, who should compromise. "Lancer" certainly makes sense as an all-spear, no wyvern class, so maybe "Pikeman" or something like it should be the job counterpart: all spear, no wyvern, hardcore DD.

There are plenty of ways to justify having a wyvern as a pet, even with the current Ishgardian Lore. Like I said earlier, as did many others, some wiser, more level-headed Lancers (later to be called DRAGOONS), tamed/befriended the dragons, rather than destroyed them; and as a result, they were granted dragon-like abilities (such as breath moves, jump, etc.) AND were given a young wyvern to assist them in battles.

Now...how SE should go about implementing the pet wyvern into Dragoon's battle style is a little beyond me. I'm sure I could think of something though.

Too late to change direction. There was no information indicating Dragoon would have a Wyvern or a pet of any sort, and going by that, if they decide on the spur of the moment to change Dragoon from a crit-based class to a pet class, that would effectively delay patch 1.21 for four months. And that's a very conservative estimate.

I'm sure you don't want the entire playerbase mad at you.
