    Dragoon pet

Yoshida said pretty much all of us wanted it. Is that really true?
I know I, for one, would prefer to keep the dragoon strong and not a pet job.

    *edit*
    #XIVLive Q: Will dragoons have a wyvern?
A: After 2.0, we are thinking about having them use their breath ability when you jump. However, as I answered in the interviews, I think you all really would like to fight alongside a wyvern pet. With a dragoon having a pet wyvern, battle balance will be necessary for both master and pet, and as a result the dragoon itself might become a bit weaker. We would like to hear your feedback on this before we make any final decisions.

Please comment your opinion on this, even if it has been stated before, since it will show the dev team what we really think about the ideas.

He mentioned that its become more of an issue than he thought it would, and wanted the PC to use dragonic abilities instead of splitting them up and weakening the player. It would take a lot of balancing

Personally, XI had the pet, now I'd like to be powerful myself.

Nyeh, I am not a Lancer but, I plan to be. I wouldn't mind either way really. We aren't going to miss much w/o it. But, I also wouldn't mind getting a wee bit weaker in exchange for a Wyvern. As long as they don't get nerfed like SMN did in FFXI (*Shudder*)

Dragoon does not need a wyvern.

FFXI is the only game where Dragoon is a pet job. FFXIV dragoons -fight- dragons. They do not need a wyvern, it makes no sense in this game, please let them be powerful attackers instead of trying to balance a pet in with everything else and ruining the job. Please.

    This totally..

I'm all for pet classes, But really a DRG shouldn't be one of them..
Yes you can rewrite the game lore, but you can also not copy something from XI..

Some of these things where a comment like Lots of people do/don't...
I'd like to see SE step up and put a poll up linked to active accounts to back comments..
As a lot of the comments i read were against not for it in other posts (but then I don't read every post ever day).

    edit:

Actually going to add i wanted a DRG in XI cos of the pet.. I just never played enough to get it.
It just wouldn't work without massive changes in XIV, and shouldn't imo.

Dear god...Normally, I try to read through an entire thread before I "pick my battles," but I just could NOT let this one go. Seriously, what is SO wrong with trying something NEW. You remind me of those old people who desperately cling to their culture and traditions. "Dragoons -fight- dragons." That's what they've done in the past (aside from in XI), so that's what they should always do for the rest of eternity? That's your masterful insight on the issue? And no one said they couldn't still be "powerful attackers." Yoshi said he would have to find a way to balance the job...that might just mean something like "no more skewer/doomspike moves" -so it's a beast of a job on single targets, but it has nothing that can do significant damage to crowds (except for maybe a single 2k+ tp that combines w/ a breath move from wyvern, or something -possibly? hopefully?).

Anyway, towards the end of XI (pre-abyssea, cuz I haven't touched the game since it was released), dragoon finally found it's "edge" with colibris and what-not. Of course, polearm-weilding sams could still outdmg em, if i remember correctly, but that wouldn't be an issue in this game, since wpns are "the jobs." (on a side note...I hate that -makes each class less unique when you restrict their wpn options, but that's another issue). I realize that it's a lot to take on, but it's worth the effort. One thing I hated about XI is that they never really, fully, utilized Dragoon's potential. They should have found some more innovative ways to portray the different sub job combinations (like they did w/ rdm and whm subs).

The best thing about a wyvern is that it furthers the OVERWHELMING need to distinguish one class/job from another. Instead of figuring out how to properly "nerf" lancer/dragoon, how bout trying to find some innovative ways to "beef up" the other classes, since as of right now...cnj and thm are GROSSLY overpowered.

    Soooooo...

Building Dragoon as a positional crit-master class /isn't/ actually a new and fresh take on the job...

But giving them a Wyvern and making them just like FFXI's /is/ trying something new?

That's an exciting analysis of the situation.

    Hmmm, let's see:

Something that's been around since before I was born and found in numerous FF titles and other games/stories

    *********************VS********************

Something that's been around since 2002ish

Ya, you're right. There's nothing "new" about the pet for DRG idea, nothing at all.
