Yes, this! Being a rogue is a way of life.

Ninjas can have ninjutsu, and dual weild mastery.

Samurais can unlock defensive and offensive auras through weapons. Samurais should also have the double hand trait to hold the Katana with both hands to maximize striking.
didn't patch 1.19 make all daggers dated? And of all the new weapon recipes I don't think any of them are daggers

They implied a while ago that we could get secondary jobs for each class at some point, GLA >THF makes sense to me, I don't see where the GLA wears heavy armour arguement comes into it, gear should be chosen on optimal stats for the class/job.

GLA30 + PGL15 = THF can only use daggers and some short swords.

I also agree that CNJ could do with getting something more than justs healing, Summoner makes sense.

in most Final Fantasy games Thief unlocked Ninja and Assassin. So we will see how things go. I honestly do not care if its a class or job as long as I can be a Thief I have no complaints.

Similar with CNJ, since it will be forced into a healer role only, it will need some sorta DD attached. (I vote for RDM)
As for a DW GLA job, the only things to come to mind are NIN and THF, which does leave an issue to the equipment worn. Since armor is lost.
Samurai would work better for a GLA Damage Dealer Advanced Job or Even Dark Knight.

if thief was a second job for a class, surely pugilist 30 archer 15, or the other way round. but either way that would make for a better thief than gladiator

Breaking the daggers out into there own class and then having ninja sprouting out of that only seems logical to me.

It's a pretty typical thing in fantasy games for the guy who has access to the heaviest armor to also be able to wear the lightest. The way Gladiators are portrayed, and the way sensible Gladiators gear, is with heavy armor.
Many of the quests with Marauders in them involve stealing and theft on a regular basis, so you know, there's that. There's even a sneaking mission for Marauders where you have to steal something without getting caught -- the quintessential thief quest.

In terms of thief-like abilities, Pugilist has Blindside (sneak attack) and Accomplice (er, accomplice), Lancers have Collusion (trick attack), Archers have Quickstride (flee). Pugilists were also originally supposed to have Steal be baseline, but that was scrapped.

So in terms of actual gameplay and story mechanics combined, Gladiator is probably the least likely DoW to become thief.

Parry materia (and the Parry stat in general) is for Marauders and to a much lesser extent tanking Pugilists, and an even lesser extent Lancers. If you have a Gladiator using Parry materia and it's not just because they're recycling the gear from Marauder, then, well...

Or Ninja could require Thief, which would make the most sense. Believe it or not, new classes can and will be added. Not every job needs to stem from the current few we have. Musketeer sure as hell wouldn't make any sense from our current class list.
parry materia can only go on GLA / MRD / LNC / CNJ 2-Hand / THM 2-Hand

pug gets no access to it Anyhow Im not saying glad has to have theif, but out of all the choices i think pug and glad are the forerunners. Its also definately far down the line (they say they want magic classes first, then pet classes, then most likely corsair, so thief and ninja whether main or sub is probably a looooonnng ways a way. By then i expect many things will have changed, sooo its really hard to say what will be what.
