More importantly, look on this very thread how many people will play Stormblood just because "they played throughout all the game since now so they might as well keep playing". Not many posts on this thread really praise the game for being fun, only for...being there...and for other MMO to be worse.
I find acquiring only a single set of gear intended to last say, the duration of each expansion, boring. And I cannot stand systems that employ situational gear based on boss fights. Honestly, what does it even matter? Gear, at least in my opinion, is a simple ends to a means. Does it provide better stats? Yes? That's all I care about. My enjoyment and sense of accomplishment comes from clearing fights and gradually optimizing in whatever job I play. I do agree gearing secondary jobs and the relic grind ought to be handled better but having gear last is not going to revolutionize progression. We'll just have even less to farm for.

And since you mentioned it. I plan to purchase Stormblood because, shockingly, yes, I find FFXIV fun. It absolutely could improve on the formula and should cater less to the lowest common denominator, but that doesn't take away from the good qualities it has
