If the formula is still the same during stormblood will you still be playing or leave

I'm already playing less than I did for 2.0. If they don't add a new content types or something that modifies the formula I will probably quit or just sub for a month for major patches.

My LSes and FC have bled out members that were unsatisfied by the current progression formula. We've lost many to the rapid content nerfing schedule. Many of these people were old 1.0 players and don't visit the forums so you are seeing a skewed response to OP question. Those who saw the writing on the wall when 3.0 came out are already gone. The rest of us who are still holding out hope are losing it...

I will be staying. This is an MMO. It's par for the coarse. You'll be extremely hard pressed to find "new and exciting" content every time you log in. Most of the draw to an MMO is long-term character building and the ability to play with people in a persistent world.

I also really like the quality of the game. I love the music, the quality of the models, and the quality of the animations. I also really like the people that I play with. Why would I leave?

As I said before, without Tomestones, you would have been stuck at Neverreap and Fractal in HW.

Neverreap and Fractal awarded the relevant tomestones though. I'm not sure I understand why there's some fundamental difference between farming them for gear that drops directly vs farming them for a currency used to purchase gear. You're doing the exact same content either way.

The OP describes precisely what all MMOs are. So if anyone would quit for the reasons listed in the OP, then they should probably stop playing MMOs in general, as they all follow the same formula (at least the theme park ones... a notable exception is a more sandbox MMO, EVE online).

and lastly, I know that I don't need to tell people to go play another game. I know they are already aware of that fact. But when someone makes a forum thread trashing on things people like about the game and asking them if they gonna stop playing because of it, I don't think it's inappropriate to bring that fact up.

Context is key here. I bet the OP thought this forum thread was going to go in another direction as well lol.

Fair point; I did interpret the tone differently, myself, but a fair point nonetheless. That said, two things.

1.) I do think a lot of people play the game despite not enjoying the formula. I count myself among this group. The reason is twofold; firstly, it has a sense of nostalgia to it, strengthened by my time with FFXI. Secondly, I enjoy the storylines immensely. FFXIV's formula, rather than driving me away completely, simply inclines me to take breaks for long periods of time - because I'm not about to pay the monthly fee for ten new storyline quests every three months.

2.) I'd argue that the OP didn't trash things people like about the game. I've yet to see many people who actually like SE's formulaic updates. I've seen people who like the game despite the predictable updates, or people who appreciate the friendliness of the game's content, or people who like the frequency of the updates - but I've yet to see anyone saying "Yes sir, it's fantastic that Expert Roulette only has two dungeons in it at a time", or "I love that there's only one Alliance-sized Raid with relevant equipment at any given time."

Given this second point, I often wonder why posts like these generate so much backlash in the opposite direction (though to be fair, the same thing happens whenever a post praising SE is made). I wish I'd see a little more nuance from the community, a little more effort made at finding common ground and empathizing with each other. Instead, people just advise the other side to quit, or blame them for ruining the title.

TL; DR - Didn't mean to jump on your post quite so strongly, but I do think your response was problematic, and part of the reason this (forum) community has become so toxic.

Don't forget the famous "I love having to redo all my stuff every 6 months" or "I love how I can only focus on gearing one job at at time because of weekly caps"

More importantly, look on this very thread how many people will play Stormblood just because "they played throughout all the game since now so they might as well keep playing". Not many posts on this thread really praise the game for being fun, only for...being there...and for other MMO to be worse.

I've been playing since 2.0 and haven't stopped. So yes, I'll keep playing.

There's no way in hell I'm going to leave this game after I've been playing this for almost 3 years. I'm gonna play this MMO until the servers shutdown!

Sarcasm aside, yes this is among the best mmos on the market, so I'm not going anywhere.

I'm a sucker for Final Fantasy, of course i'll be staying, even if Yoshi P came out and said that I smell like poop i'll still play.

Considering I've poured half my life's blood into about 16 alts, I can't afford to leave now......

That's dumb, pretty irrelevant, and counter-productive to your very argument.

Think about it. According to you, SE doesn't even need to make a game people like in order to get them to pay for it, continuously. Why would they, or anyone spend extra money and resources to change a formula that has that kind of results? Even if you are taking breaks, you didn't deactivate that account, and can be counted on to come back lol. The only thing SE cares about is your money, and if you keep giving it them, none of the things that make up the core game is going to change. So, in the end, we'll still be playing the same game for the next 2-3 years that we're playing now. The only thing that will prompt a real change is if people stop playing, but as yall have pointed out, not even the "bad" formula will drive people away.

TLDR: Game ain't changing, SE still taking yall money, and I'll yall in Stormblood.
