At a very generous rate of 15 minutes per clear, you will get 600 lore in an hour. To get the 24K of lore you need for the umbrite step, that means literally FOURTY HOURS of ARF. If you're lucky, bonuses and roulettes will shave off about 2 hours. Still that's literally over a full day of play time. That translates into weeks of play for anyone who isn't a worthless NEET.

Far more than a "couple of hours".

Point being some people are Relic some are Raids

So what is really the big point, step back and breath. Yes Relics are a grind...Guess what they always have, Raid weps are great as a temporary alternative. Over all I rather clear raids for content and focus my time on Relics. So instead of going back and forth, if in same server, Duel it out I say. In the end some players are better than others and while gear may have it's stats, what good is it overall if the player lacks the skill? If you get a raid wep Kudos to you, your awesome you know enough about your job to beat savage , if you have a relic, Props to you , I KNOW you have done the hard work and more likely mastered your job by doing so. Now if your a FFXI player and really want to know what a Grind is go do the relics there, you may still complain about it but guess what? it's sooo much easier now than it was at the beginning. Then again old the new cupcake generation seems to spoiled :P

Seems you already know the answer to your own question.

We raiders already get a lot of advantages over those who don't raid at-all pretty much, so I don't make a big deal about it. I suppose it would help to lay out the advantages we get compared to those who don't raid and have to wait for a "catch-up" patch like 3.5 to get upgrade items. We already had one i260 weapon on week one, and before the end of the first month already four i270+ weapons in the raid.

When 3.4 dropped and the sooner your raid clears these floors weekly:

    A9S

    270 right side drops

    A10S

    270 left side
    Gobcoat (belt/right side upgrade)
Micro-tome for a i260 weapon, earliest you could buy one was week 2. Everyone else that didn't raid had to do 7 weeks of A12N.

    A11S

    270 left side
Gob twine (270 left side upgrade)
    Gobdip (270 shire weapon upgrade)

    A12S

    270 chest
    275 weapon
    Mount
    Minion

They also needed 7 of the gear thingies to buy the special tomestone together with those 1k tomes, so no-one could get those weapons until they've completed 7 weeks or A12 anyways XD

I meant we had the tome, and really on reset moment of week 3 you can buy since it's 50 more tomes.

No you don't. One micro-tome drops weekly in A10S.

I don't really care if the relic weapon is decently powerful or whatever, I just wish the quests were better DESIGNED. Totally went downhill after the i80 step, IMO. Overabuse of reusing content and an unfun timesink that is known to test even the most loyal of players. Hopefully the Eureka area or whatever it is in 4.0 will be a lot more engaging of a quest series.

Yoship mentioned in one of his recent interviews after JP fanfest they are changing the relic quest in 4.0. I for one don't put a lot of stock in that, because he had previously made a comment they don't want to gate a relic behind "hard" fights again like in ARR. Which a lot of people actually liked.

Really should put a little more stock into people playing their job for their weapon beyond mindless leveling dungeons or light grind. Even if they added something like paying your relic job through the easier raids like tower series and Alexander Normal that would be a boost to those queues which are already in a pretty bad situation.
