However, I very much believe that my fun should not come at the expense of the rest of my party, so it's my responsibility to be at least moderately prepared, especially tanking or healing.

Also, the point of discovering information is to share it, so that it can be built upon. In school, you don't rediscover the wheel. You learn from those who have come before so that you can build on it and further it. The same applies any time there's learning to be had.

In this story, I think "being a DRG with appropriate gear would have been enough preparation".
For the "dodging" part, it depends on how it went. It can be pretty obvious wether a person is just moving late on simply not moving at all.

The game litterally tells you anything you need to know, more now than ever with the novice hall. You can't skip hours of tutorial and then cry that you lack informations...

Let me sum Cutter's Cry up for you. On the first boss everyone burns the boss while the healer kites the adds and heals the tank. This requires the healer to be moderately skilled, but isn't hard to do. I've done it, and I'm not far from totally blind. On the second boss players should watch for the boss going underground and immediately run to a wall. In the last boss, players should run near the boss for lightning, away for ice, and to lead the orb away from the party. Range only need to stand as far away as possible. The only other thing worth noting is that the later packs of trash can be rough on undergeared or underskilled players, so tanks should consider pulling in accordance with their party. (*this is out of memory, so don't rage if I'm not as accurate as a visual guide)

The thing is that almost all of the dungeons and trials are that simple to explain. In fact the only time players need to look up a job guide is at max level to learn how to optimize their play. The only content where reading a guide is advisable is Ex primals and NM raids where mechanics are numerous and checks are a little tight, and the 24 man raids where things can get out of hand due to there being so many people involved. If you're going into savage raiding you should be well beyond the point of needing a guide to learn anything.

To add on to your note, the only notification we know about Ram's and Dragon's voice are the chimera's eyes. When the text on screen says Chimera's eyes turn violet, you have to run to the boss (close to it, melee range). When the text says Chimera's eyes turn blue, they have to run away from Chimera.

If you run to near max outsides of the arena and Chimera is kept in the middle, you don't need to run into the middle if you're running away from the orb and the Chimera's eyes turn violet. You will be out of range of Dragon's Voice if at the edge of the arena and chimera is left in the middle.

I can't read that text cue, so that explains that omission. xD I don't think that makes my point any less valid. Even though I haven't ever had that cue, I still got all of the mechanics down without a guide.

Interesting. learned it by checking for Ram's voice or Dragon's voice? If not, how do you know when to go in or out without the cast name or the text cue?

Clearing Hall of the Novice should be mandatory to unlock your airship pass.

You know... I haven't ever thought about that. I checked against a video or two and those attacks have cast bars. Focus target would make them trivial. I'll remember that.

Edit: I don't think I really answered your question. I memorized the timings instead of relying on cues. It's the same way I manage enochian in my rotation.

Can you explain the timings thing? I use focus target so I see both textual cues. I've always seen the voices as being random (no set order)
